All,
I would be hesitant to call Kristin a poet. Patti Smith is a poet. Dylan Thomas is a poet. Beloved Allen Ginsberg is a poet.
Kristin's lyrics are so personal, so wrapped up in her own daily reality and identity that besides relating to a song on an emotive level, one would be hard pressed to decipher, or take any direct and tangible meaning from her words. Its a direct experience.
On the other side of that, the symbolism, and mystical element of her work is as vague as her description of it. This isn't a shot really, but some artists revel in their vagueness.
Her process is tied to her neuroses, I think, atleast thats my best guess.... (I laughed just after I wrote that.)
Of course there are exceptions. The two songs mentioned are good examples of that. But overall its exceedingly difficult to classify her.
Her music "just is" Their is a Buddhist term for this sort of art, art of the here and now, there is a whole Dharma on it, but I can't remember the name of it.
"Southern Buddhist Baptist" is saying an awful lot. (Pardon my poetic license)
Kristin defies catagorization, and in a sense she works against the notions of those who would try to classify her.
But, my dear friends, tis is all empty conjecture. This whole sub-culture is an enigmatic delusion....... If it makes you happy, makes you fel alive, immerse yourself in it. Experience is everything.
Long live the Throwing Muses!
Love,
GOD
