My best friend is a fan of Dar's. I can't say I was overly impressed. But my friend did introduce me to a band that is well worth checking out: The Nields. Not one, but two female singers, sisters at that. Their latest album is their best (Gotta Get Over Greta). It is on Razor&Tie and is therefore kind of hard to find, but I heard that it is soon going to be rereleased by EMI-Capitol.
