Hm. I'm not positive, I'm just guessing, but the original Director movie might have been created for a larger screen than your Powerbook has. In which case, it's trying to fill twice the area you have, ignoring the actual dimensions of your screen.
If this is the case, there's unfortunately nothing to do about it except play it on a computer with a larger monitor. I've never tried it on a Powerbook, so if someone else has successfully done so, let me know.
