Subject: Spiritualized tones LP

The latest thing I've seen by Spiritualized comes in a plain white
sleeve with the Pure Phase logo on it, and it seems to be
a recording of reference tones. All the tracks are listed as
frequencies in kHz at both 33 and 45 rpm. I can imagine Mark
Robinson would think this was cool, but would anyone really
buy what is essentially just a stereo/electronics test record?
Or is it a joke and these are really normal songs?

My guess is it's additional MIME info that's part of the message, not an
enclosure as such. Most mail readers today just support MIME (Multimedia
Internet Mail Enclosures) for file enclosures, but it can also be used to
append formatting info like fonts/styles or embedded pictures. Some newer
mail programs support this -- Microsoft Exchange and Apple's CyberDog are
the two I know of. Those reading the message using a mail program that
doesn't support rich text will see the data as a mysterious enclosure.
Just ignore it and await the happy day when we'll all be freed of the
tyranny of monospaced ascii with hard line breaks!

is this the three singles for "let it flow". i only have two of them, but i
think i do remember mention that the third would come in a box to house them
all. also, i have one of them on 10". does anyone know if all were released
on 10".

I have seen a black, promo-only cardboard box containing "Laser Guided
Melodies" and two u.k. singles. It was pretty non-descript & except for a
cool little photo, it wasn't anything I didn't already have, so I spent my
$15 on something else. Could this possibly be it?

are you confusing this with the triple single? over to
n update:...

Three different versions of this EP were released with the (*) tracks taken
from the band's 1993 Glastonbury set. All three versions were released
seperately, with a cardboard slipcase for all three included with CD number
three. A live version of the "Don't Go..." track was recorded but substituted
with the studio version as Spir. did not want to use a mix with everyone
talking in the crowd. The 10" single has the same track listing as the first
CD.

Track Listing - CD Number One:

   1.Let It Flow 5:29
   2.Don't Go/Stay With Me 6:05
   3.Don't Go/Stay With Me (The Individual) 4:38

Track Listing - CD Number Two:

   1.Let It Flow 4:27
2.Take Good Care Of It* 6:00
3.Things'll Never Be The Same* 7:32
   4.Clear Rush* 7:20

Track Listing - CD Number Three:

   1.Let It Flow 4:51
   2.Medication* 8:00
   3.Take Your Time* 6:56
   4.Smile* 9:40

me again:
i only ever saw one set of these (the set i bought on the day of release
much to the chagrin of bloke serving at Our Price in covent garden who had
his eye on them...) and they were all 1 pound 99 p so it came to under 6 quid
for an lp's worth of material. makes up for 'pure phase tones for dj's' i
suppose...

I posted the track lists for the 2-track 7" and 4/5-track CD-EP to the list
yesterday, but didn't mention then that although 'Universal Frequencies' (I
mistakenly called it 'Beech Boys', sorry) is exactly the same on both
formats, the version of 'Summer Of ESP' on the CD is longer than on the 7".
It has a bonus 25 seconds of noisy singing.
I'd say buy the CD-EP for the music, and the 7" for the labels artwork.

The Universal Frequencies 12" must be a US pressing, as there is no
(regular) UK 12".

This is from a post on the David Sylvian list (I have edited it greatly!):

Date: Tue, 21 May 1996 16:50:17 +0100 (BST)
From: "k.milburn" ([email protected])
Subject: uk info/fripp - gone at last

The last four concerts I've seen, all enjoyable in their different ways, have
been Ron Sexsmith, The Cocteau Twins, Billy Bragg, and Lloyd Cole.
Incidentally sylvian met The Cocteaus Liz Frazier in New York in the late
Eighties and expressed an interest in working with her, but sadly nothing
came of this. Sylvian was also asked to sing on the last This Mortal Coil
album Blood, as were Scott Walker and Ian McCullogh, but turned down the
offer since he "couldn't relate to the lyrics".

Wouldn't that have been intriguing???

Alrighty then. First off, I finally got myself a Spiritualized album, and I
absolutely love it. I haven't been able to dislodge it from my cd player.
So I've got a few questions:

1) Are they still together?

2) I saw a discography for them. Which of their items is out of print?

3) At one time I heard about a boxed set of three albums. What is in it,
exactly?

On a different note. So I was out record shopping yesterday and found the
third copy of Slowdive's Holding Our Breath ep in two months. All of them
have been under $15. Can someone with a Creation catalogue pleeeeeeease
tell me if this has been reissued without my knowing it?

Thankya much,

As someone else said, very much so. Dr John, the legendary New Orleans
pianist, is one of the guests on their new album, which has still to be
mixed. And it's all new material (their previous albums had too many
reworkings of singles and B-sides for my taste).

 > 2) I saw a discography for them. Which of their items is out of

>From the horse's mouth (someone from their record company who emailed
one of the members of the droneon list), all their back catalogue (with
the exception of limited edition coloured vinyl singles) will be
re-pressed soon. The albums ("Lazer Guided Melodies" and "Pure Phase")
are readily available. If you ever see the live album "Fucked up
Inside", BUY IT. They are one of the most amazing live bands I have
ever seen, and this is a pristine quality recording. Spiritualized
singles tend to appear on the albums in re-recorded form - there aren't
a lot of actual songs which are exclusive to singles, but almost all the
singles are different recordings (not simply remixes). "Feel So Sad",
"Medication", and the "Electric Mainline" EP are particularly worth
getting.

Never heard of it. I think if there was such a thing, it would have

Does anyone have definite confirmation that this was ever really
deleted? There have been a lot of rumours about the Slowdive EPs no
longer being available, mainly based on people being unable to buy them
in Iowa.

just an opposing viewpoint for spice: i enjoy listening to the 'silver'
album from time to time (like once every 6 months), but it can get kind of
monotonous after two or so listens. i took the 'gold' album back because
imo that record was even *more* monotonous and boring - they seemed to play
every song in the same key, ineffective and unimaginative leads,
predictable chord progressions. i wasn't impressed.
yin-yang,
.j.

oh mah gawd! like, the past week i have simply
been like groovin' to mars audiac quintet and like i can't like believe i
haven't spent more money on stereolab records. is like electronic
transmissions etc. or whatever the hell it's called like a good, like,
progression from maq? (no i like, do NOT want to, like, start a whole like
thread on it, i'm just like asking. i like, like, the poppy singalongs but
i like, like noisy burble bubbles as well.)

like is a very strange word after you read it x amount of, like, times.

Subject: Cocteau Twins & Faye Wong

Hey AGAIN,

Am I to assume that no one on this list has the new Cocteau Twins album?
Someone please just look at the liner notes and see if it states as my cd
does that "Faye Wong sings with Elizabeth Fraser on Serpentskirt"...just
curious if this is Hong Kong only!

Thanks?,
Peter

>Hey,

>Could anyone enlighten me as to whether Faye Wong is on the US or UK
versions of "Milk and Kisses"? I think she has an amazing voice, very
Liz-like, and have the Hong Kong version of the album on which she sings on
"Serpent Skirt". The Hong Kong version goes so far as to have a sticker on
the front which says "Featuring Faye Wong"!!!

Subject: that dog. shows coming up

Former Guernica artists that dog. have two shows coming up.
According to their postcard you should "sneak out of the house
and spend your weekends with that dog."

Sunday May 26th @ Alligator Lounge, 3321 Pico in West LA.
All Ages.

Saturday June 1st @ Spaceland, 1717 Silverlake, Los Angeles,
just over the hill from Rockaway and the Red Lion Tavern.
It's a 21+ show.

I believe I saw in LA Weekly that they're playing at
McCabes too, but maybe I just confused it with the
Alligator show.

has anyone heard this awesome band? they're out of england, and i believe
they'll be on bob stanley's new label. beautiful, beautiful stuff,
very early 80's synthy with hint of stereolab mmmmmmm. haunting at times,
beautiful dissonant melodies very simple sparse but LOVELY.

they have two 7"'s out so far, but as for anything on cd i don't know.
check them out please!
