Nothing specific, but the last time I saw Lois, Alan Sparhawk was playing

Hello,

I too have been trying to unsubscribe for some time. Except it hasn't
worked for me. And the person who sent the message "UNSUBSCRIBE *" to
the list, well, that was a bit cryptic and not too helpful.

If someone has unsubscribing instructions, could you please send them to
me? I've been on the list for several years now, and my own FAQ (for the
Hopkins 4ad-l) is hopelessly out-of-date.

Thanks,
Dave

PS Obl. 4ad content: Anyone know where to get the 1996 v23 calendar
anymore? Any word of a 1997 v23 calendar? I still hang my non-functional
1993 4ad calendar with pride.

Somebody may know about "Lucinda Bright" (other than being the name of a

So ... the listings for Dr. Watson's Pub (Philadelphia) have a line that
 reads:

      1/9 Dara * Lucinda Bright

(1/9 meaning Jan 9) This is just something I saw in a paper, so I don't
know anything more about this gig.

I'll ask Davin next time I see him, but last I heard on Dara (approx. 3
months ago) was that she was moving to the Ann Arbor area (outskirts of
Detroit for out-of-staters) from New York and that she wasn't very musically
active with local acts. Last known project was the New Grape cassette which
was being considered for a CD release.

About a week ago, someone had mentioned that timeSTEREO was a "cassette only"
label---- well, I'd just like to clarify~
timeSTEREO just released a CD ep from Godzuki entitled "FREE WADE" featuring
Wade from Ohms fame on sax throughout the 4 tracks (track #3 is brilliant!!).
This was produced in cooperation with the GO SONIC label...but is NOT the
first CD release from timeSTEREO.
The first being of course the 4-track "Slow Poke IN.12" by Princess
Dragon-Mom.

Someone also posted on the Livonia list about the slow response on timeSTEREO
orders and inquiries, and rest assured that Davin is trying to keep up the
pace...especially with the 20tape set of live HNIA performaces from the past
tour.

For those waiting on a timeSTEREO catalog and cannot wait on the local post
office to come through, I will try to post the entire new catalog Davin gave
to me this last weekend.

As far as a HNIA tour in '97...... they planning another extensive tour of
the west coast starting "soon". Also 2 follow up ep's to "Universal
Frequencies" will be released in the coming months.

If you can't wait for more Defever.... be sure to order the Control Panel
(sci-electro noise ala Warren) tape and 12" from timeSTEREO

order via fax (c/o The Record Collector) at: 1.810.473.8350

Lois opened for Low (along with Modest Mouse) when I saw them last year.
Near the end of Lois' set, Alan came out and sang with her on one song.
Maybe this was the would-be single. his were mainly backing vocals.

This is the song Dylan actually wrote for Nico, isn't it? (One of
those Bob Legends - sat down and dashed the thing off in ten minutes
for her, during that period in the sixties when he was churning out
fantastic songs at an amazing rate). Dylan's own version is on
"Biograph", and I think it's only a publishers' demo. Not one of his
finest songs, but not the worst one either (even by the standards of
 his sixties work).

Nico's first solo album ("Chelsea Girls") is a bit of a forgotten
masterpiece - all the Velvet Underground except for Moe Tucker played
on it, and about half the songs on it were written by Reed, Cale and
Morrison in various combinations. "It Was a Pleasure Then" is
actually a VU song which that band never recorded. And there's
"These Days", by Jackson Browne, one of my favourite songs ever,
which perfectly encapsulates all those feelings of regret and
disillusionment most of us have occasionally. And the Dylan song
mentioned above, and a few other good ones.

Apologies if I sound incredulous, but how can you have been on the list
for more than a month and *not know* where to find the current FAQ? I and
others have sent the address dozens if not hundreds of times:
   http://www.milhoan.com/music/4AD_FAQ.html
It describes what to do if the usual signoff command doesn't work, if
your return address has changed since you subscribed. Usually you'll have
to get the postmaster at your site ("postmaster@....") to send a special
command to the listserv on your behalf.

I think i saw it at newbury comics in downtown boston today.

Because of all the talk about low, i have bought the following in the last
      long division
      the curtain hits the cast

also bought lois's snapshot radio ep today.

all excellent and well worth the money. thanks to all who have posted
positive reviews. i plan on seeing low on the 25th at the somerville
theater with the swans(who are playing their last tour). anyone in boston
should check it out, as the somerville theater is one of those old movie

I took a look at the site.

The writing is lame, exactly what you'd expect from the mainstream news
media covering something "underground" and "happening" and "cool".

The movies are AVI, so the quality sucks and you have to wait for the
whole huge files to download before being able to see anything. But then,
this is a Microsoft site so they couldn't use QuickTime.

The RealAudio 2.0 samples sound ludicrously garbled, as though some one
had run them through a whole bank of Kevin Shields' effect pedals.
Actually kind of a neat sound but hardly recognizable as the original
songs...
