a couple of years ago i came across the Bossanova vocals/guitar/piano songbook.
so i'm wondering; are there anymore pixies songbooks, or, for that matter, any
other 4ad band songbooks? i wonder if warren defever even writes down anything
or if he just records and plays by memory.
what are the chances?

Well my address portion of my e-mail is really screwed up, I had to
highlight someone else's name to get your address to pop up...now, I
am wondering if this will go to you or to Rusty (hee hee), so Rusty
if you recieve this message from Melissa -- PLEASE DISREGARD!
With that out of the way...Dear Heather,
Hadn't heard from ya in a bit and thought I would pump you for
info...How is the Tom thing going - is it going - whats the scoop?
AND, you never did tell me much about him (tap tap tap)!
Things here are same old, same old...I have settled into working
girls routine. Nothing exciting. Buying up lots o' cd's, and by the
way Lucious Jackson has a new one and it is really good! Mark and I
went to see SLEEPERS on Saturday night...ack, what a f**king
depressing movie (and long). Did I tell you that both Julie and
Karen Daly in Richmond are getting married this Spring! Suckers (hee
hee)...I have to say that I am bit surprised...I believe in very long
engagements myself (chuckle, grin, snicker).
I haven't even begun writing my seminar paper. I have a lot of
source material, I just have to hone in on a thesis (tres important,
no?). Guess what I'll be doing over Thanksgiving break. Thats ok,
though...I am starting to get annoyed by family holiday thingys
anyways...I mean the older I get the more impatient I get with family
(especially Mark's family, yikes)!
Hope you are doing well...taking care o' yourself and all that
business...Send me an e-mail, when you get a chance!
See ya,
mml

What ever happened to Swallow. I have their one album and forgot about it for ye
rs.
I just found it and listened to it and am completely mesmerized by the beauty of
the last track "Head in a Cave".
So what did those 2 people do after Swallow (I take it they split or something s
nce I never heard anything else about them)

Hmm, i don't wanna sound patronizing or anything, but that is a very funny/cute
little story-telling thingy there. I like!
To go back to more serious matters. I was wondering myself if there was anyone
left on the list. Looks like everyone migrated to some other plane of existence
(do you know how to sub that that other list?).
I haven't posted here for a while, mainly because I haven't been listening to
any 4AD type stuff lately (it goes in cycles). So where did everyone go?
So anyway, (erm, very week language/grammar skills displayed here apparently),
completely non 4AD related but, is anyone going to see Versus and The Wedding
Present tonght at the Roxy?

i remember being at a red red meat, codeine, mazzy star show a few years ago at
maxwell's in hoboken. it took nearly an hour for mazzy star to do the sound
check and they were very tempramental and complaining all the time. even after
they started they took ages between songs to fiddle with stuff and complain some
more. i eventually decided that the music wasn't appealling enough to sit
through that nonsense, and left. so now i'm wondering, are their roadies
generally "shit" or are mazzy star uptight rock stars? and if the former is the
case, why haven't they fired those guys?

this from today's Music News of the World. my gawd...
Addicted To Noise staff writer
Gil Kaufman reports: Breeder's
member Kelly Deal says The Last Hard
Men, a supergroup consisting of Deal,
Skid Row's Sebastian Bach, the Frogs'
Jimmy Flemion and ex-Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy
Chamberlin, are in fact more than just a weird rock and
roll rumor.
"If you've read any of my interviews lately, I talk about
Sebastian a lot," Deal told Addicted To Noise, adding that
she's not sure herself why that is. That's all well and
good,
but just how did this motley crew end up in the same
recording studio?
"I saw this article in Spin magazine about hair bands and I
was really bothered by it," said Deal. "I mean, here they
were making fun of these bands, but what were the
interviewers wearing? Grunge flannel? Baggy pants? I was
bothered that Spin made fun of style because everything is
style and it was done in a really mean way. Don't get me
wrong, I'm not a huge metal fan either. I mean I like
Sabbath, but glam metal was so pussy. It just didn't seem
fair."
So, basically incensed, Deal, who'd always heard Bach had
a great voice and was the realest of the hair band
squealers (her words, not ours), called up...

on a mere coincidence and a whim, i got to see above-mentioned bands last night
at this cucicle in washington d.c. called the Asylum. very apt, however, the
walls were a little too solid. having not put out anything for almost two years,
this ascension played about 75%old/25%new songs. fortunately, they played
angeldust from "walk softly, a dream lies here" their second album on tess. the
best part of the song is when the band crescendoes and the singer reaches the
highest note audible to humans (and probably to some dogs) and everyone's ear
drums start to crack and bleed. exhilirating. they're in philly tonight. catch
them if you can.
siddal, though i haven't seen them play out for almost a year, haven't changed
too much. they played some fresh stuff off of their new album and my favorite
song from the bedazzled sampler "kindred spirits" which name escapes me
presently.
all in all a good show to see if you had to skip stereolab who were playing down
the block.
cheer, sneers, and leers,
daves

Jenna,
#901113.001 - It sounds like you had a real endlessly long day
yesterday!
In a futile attempt to help you relax, I offer you a cyberbackrub. Not
too effective, eh? Oh well... It's cool you like your project but I
understand about the overwhelming aspects of what it must be like!
#961113.002 - For you homework, it's cool your prof approved a topic
you're actually into as opposed to the history of erosion or some other
fun topic like that. Are you serious when you say the majority of your
class wouldn't even know who Bauhaus is?!? Yikes! Remember the
Bowie/Sarandon flick "The Hunger"? Pretty goth inspired work of art!
Bauhaus actually appear in the film playing live versions of their
stuff.
#961113.003 - I also REALLY enjoy talking with you. Despite what Morgan
says, I still optimisticlly believe that we are adult enough to carry
this off in a dignified way. I for one, am most looking forward to
finally meeting you, either in my town or yours or hopefully both!
#961113.003.A - Like at the end of T2, the future for us is like a black
highway at night. I'm on the side of NOT wanting a crystal ball in
front of me at all times. I'm very much happy to have met you and, with
Morgan's warnings in mind, I still want to see you. I actually think
our future bodes well! You're the only person I've talked with for
hours and hours and I'm STILL very curious to know more about this super
friendly and yes, charming woman who never fails to bring a smile to my
face either when talking, reading e-mails or just a sparkly thought of
you during the middle of my day... Aww, Jenna!
#961113.004 - I really, really hope things work out with UofT or York
for the first week of December. To see a 4AD band with you live in
person would be undeniably cool to say the least!
#961113.005 - Actually, "Ransom" was well put together by Howard but the
end scene was such a "cheat the audience" routine sucker-punch that we
HAD to laugh outloud, with a hearty yelp of bitter contempt in there
too.
The ONLY strong elements of this movie are Gibson, Gary Sinese who plays
the corrupt cop that masterminds the kidnapping and one of the
smart-assed kidnappers who jokes contantly throughout the movie. Renee
Russo and Delroy Lindo are OK but leave no lasting impressions...
#961113.006 - "Foxfire"... I've seen the soundtrack CD out for a while
now at stores. I wonder if the movie will go straight to vid?
#961113.007 - YOU WROTE: if you want to talk to me or actually i guess
type to me, all you have to do is type in: talk
[email protected]
and if i am here i can answer it. I REPLIED: Well, YES!!! I DO want to
talk with you! But where exactly do I type in your info? On TelNet?
#961113.008 - At this point, when it comes to Morgan's advice, I think
I'll trust my instincts and continue to want to stay in contact with
you. I can't picture going cold turkey as I really enjoy the fact we
share our e-mails and conversations. I'm at a point where advancing to
"RT" is cool with me. It says a LOT about our comfort level that we are
both OK with each other visiting our respective homes. That you feel we
could share a bed means a great deal to me. Trust like that comes
rarely and I treat it very seriously. When it comes to friends and
values, I'm 100% serious and committed. I've been damaged in the past
but it'd be silly to close up entirely to others, right?
#961113.009 - Well, feel free to e me back with more details on the
virtual talk thing... Uhm, it's my turn to call you (you got the last
two) so maybe sometime in the next week or so if you're able to get a
little free time... Hint, hint... Talking with you is like receiving
an energy boost; I feel so good afterwards... I'll stop now before I
just get goofier and goofier! :]
#961113.010 - I hope your Wednesday goes well, Jenna! Write/talk to you
soon! ...and don't work to hard, don't forget to take time for Jenna
R&R as you totally deserve it!
#961113.011 - Hugs to you, Jenna!!
#961113.012 - ...Jeff

Saw Novak Tuesday evening supporting The Delgados. Had seen
Delgados supporting The Wedding Present last month and thought
they were worth two pounds to se again with an extra couple of
bands thrown in on top.
Novak were the suprise of the evening. The previous band, Maroon,
seemed to be atmpting to follow in the wake of Oasis etc, and were
okay but not memorable. But I had never heard of them so had no
misconceptions. Same with Novak except they turned out to be really
good.
They consisted of a female vocalist, two guitarists, bassist,
drummer and two others. The other bloke played assorted percussion,
while the other female at the front, who looked as if she was going
to sing as well, played flute and harmonica. The combination worked
really well with the female vocals and flute rising above the backdrop
created by the others.
The last song was called "Divine" and may have been mentioned that
it is the single. Ohter than that Iknow nothing of them, even if they
are doing the whole tour.

Gee Jeff and Jenna,
Hate to embarrass you guys anymore than you have yourselves already,
but...
We here at 4AD-list would like to know where the bridal registry is
setup? Maybe on the Nettwerk catalogue page? Or are you folks more on
the K2 snowboarder side?
I sincerely think it's really nice that in this increasingly cold and
untrusting world that people like you that have a common interest(s)
would take the chance to be real like folks were in the 40's and 70's
and get together. Good luck! Keep us all informed, now!

I doubt if their roadies suck all that bad. They are very "arty" people
are I'm sure are very hard to please. I love Mazzy STar but I must say
that they are one of the most boring live acts I've ever seen. You
probably didn't miss much.,

Actually its Shallow on ZeroHour isn't it?
Swallow was on 4AD and then Rought Trade.

And Verbena used to be called Shallow as well.
