Speaking of Kiss, I saw a picture (Spooky era) of Miki Berenyi
holding a picture of the band all done up in Kiss makeup and she was
sticking out her tounge like Ted Nugent (Miki's got a long tounge, woah
moma!). It was supposed to be their next single's cover but I think it
was a joke. Anymore info on Chris or the band?

I was in the record store the other day and they were playing a cd
by a band/group called lababrador (or something like that) and It was
very pretty/flowey. Anyone heard of them or any information on them?
Definitly worth checking out if you have a few extra dollars.

Anyone heard the new song by superdrag. They totally ripped that song
off from My Bloody Valentine. Track five from Loveless to be exact.
Talentless hack bastards!

There was also on 120 minutes this band at the end of the show called
Rollerskate Skinny. Stupid name but the song was amazing are they new?

cz,

when you responded to my question about kiss you didn't have to rake me
over the coals and request that i should get off this list. i subscribed
to this list to find out what was discussed. all you had to say (which a
few of the members did) was send a message letting me know that kiss isn't
discussed on this list a nicer way than was originally sent. that's what
upset me most.

i'm not sorry for what i said because i caught hell from a few members.
i am interested about finding out what bands are on this label. maybe
i've heard some of them, maybe not. to let you know kiss is my favorite
band but they're not what i listen to every day.

i happen to be a fan of some of the British bands (will not name any
because i know i'll be raked over the coals again). telling evryone that
responded to my first message to "kiss my ass" wasn't childish considering
that you and a few others started this mess. i'm new to this list and i
did not receive any info on what was discussed until after i asked the
question. most mailing lists that i'm on sends me some info on the list
right after i subscribe. maybe this list ought to do that also or is this
the way you like to welcome new members? this isn't a letter to get upset
about because i've gotten over it. i said what i had to say. leave it at
that.

Actually the band you're referring to is probably Labradford. All i know
is that they're on Kranky and probably sound like a kranky band. I hear
that their first album is pretty amazing, though....

and all i know about Rollerskate Skinny is that they used to have Kevin
Shields from MBV's Brother in it. But he's not anymore i don't think.

And does anyone on the list like Brainiac? They are totally great/insane
and they have an EP that was "decoded" (whatever that means----produced,
maybe??) by Kim Deal. Thought you all might like to know...

Yeah, i almost blew them off totally because of that goofy name but it's
from "Catcher in the Rye" I think. Rollerskate Skinny was a character.
Anyway, they're relatively new. They're from Ireland and have a tie with
My Bloody Valentine. Apparently someone in the band has a brother who was
in MBV. I might be wrong about how that tie worked but I think that's
year.

2 albums (and a new one out next week), 2 7"s, and a 10". All worth to spend
your money on. Their first album, 'Prazizion LP' was the first Kranky
release. That album, and Jessamine's first album on Kranky defined the
Kranky sound, so saying they probably sound like a Kranky band is a very
safe assumption!

Well, that's just airlines for you - they want flight attendants that look
like they actually come from the country in question. Actual non-airborne
Icelanders all look quite different. Yes, some of them look very
stereotypically Nordic, but then others don't look like that at all - just
look at the Sugarcubes.

Yes. This is no longer news.

Well, that's just tough for the record company, because the $80 million deal
is for 5 albums, so they have to stick with REM for at least that long,
unless they pull a Geffen and try to sue them for being deliberately
uncommercial and unsellable.

>Well if you ask me REM is
>wayyyy past its prime...but that's just gossip now isn't it?

I think we've all gotten accustomed to REM being around for such a long time
that we might end up saying, "*Another* album? Why?"

For those who haven't been to the MfV site, here's something interesting
about the Rene Halkett/David Jay single released by 4AD a long time ago:

"the haunting poem of Rene Halkett spoken in his own voice with David Jay's
accompaniment. Halkett, born in 1900 was widely known as a painter, writer,
lecturer and BBC broadcaster. The words on this record were recorded on a
portable cassette recorder in the backroom of his cottage on the 28th of
July 1980."

the new moon seven times cd, "sunburnt" will be out sometime in
january...the other day, lynn dropped off a cassette dub of the album at my
roommates work...ive listened to it a few times, and i must say its good...a
mix between 7=49 and the self-titled debut...some songs are very
acoustically arranged, with little or no effects from henry, other songs
sound as if they belong on the debut...very excellent, though im sure others
will disagree.

as yes. labradford. nice nice nice.
(my knowledge is limited so please flame me, i love it)
        -precizion lp (double vinyl.flyingnunn/kranky)
        -a stable reference (kranky.lp)
        -scenic recovery (single)
they are a three piece with gui/vox, bass, keys...

the first album is real laid back and sparse...
more dynamic (in labradford terms) than aSR..
singing is more in the spoken vein, but works well.
no percussion. i guess a good comparision is the spaces
between rutti on pygmalion... only 5 minutes long...
with some spacemen3 thrown in. arpeggios: low style.
dirging bass. but still more upbeat.

a stable reference is darker; strange noises in and out.
more changes within songs... still no percussion.
seems more sinister to me. there is singing but dont
plan on hearing the words.. you can hear the vocals fine
but you just cant hear the words. its strange.

the scenic single is more shoegaze style. (if i may be so cliche)
a little dabbling of percussion, chords this time.
thick walls of sound. spoken word. great stuff.

> Anyone heard of them or any information on them?

their new album is out in two weeks. yum.

Hey Kevin Barksdale!

This is Gene Simmons. You may have seen me in the hit movie
"Tracers," hey, if not --nobody remembers Blackie Lawless in "Dungeon Master"
either. Anyhoo, I really dig your incursions into this list. I mean,
its like there simply isn't enough of the chauvanism of the 80's, you know
not in the pejorative sense, but like the original sense of the word--like
totally dedicated to your cause man.
So like what I'm trying to get at is like that state of naivete
that kind of blissful simpleton ignoramous state. I mean the Soviets
were our enemies, we all just wanted to get laid and party, you know--
like have a good time: live up the fantasia of the Reagan Era. We lived
by our credos like "Sex, Drugs and Rock-n-Roll," "Rock On," and philosophies
like "If I just want it hard enough, it will like happen dude" or "Gnarly."
So basically you see the outline of my point like the breasts of a Go-Go
dancer for Motley Crue, right? I mean things are much simpler than these
fops and dandies of 4AD believe... I mean your "Da Music Man" its undisputed
I mean like who needs a reality principle? I mean why look any deeper than
the cheese well of a snack-pack cracker. Is there not great meaning in just
believing in something without the shackles of justification and rational
parle?
You know you're right. And that means you can lay down the law man.
Tell them that you're not gonna take it. Just react constantly.

Don't know why but wasn't expecting to read about the Weddoes on this
list. The new album is as good as anything they have recorded before,
but still sounds out as an individual album. Excellent live last month
as well, with the Delgados supporting. Unfortunatley they seem to be
losing support and are now playing smaller venues, though that is no
real bad thing.

um, im sorry to interrupt here, but isnt the whole point of this list
so that people with a common interest in *the same music* can discuss it?

of course not everyone has the same taste in music, which is why this list
exists... so those of us who do can have nice little discussions about it
in a private place without bothering the general public...

why would someone join this mailing list if they had never heard of 4ad?
thats the impression im getting from 'the music man'...
this all seems to be getting a little out of control.

Dear Toe-Head:
Why did you subscribe in the first place? Please keep your offensive
drivel off the bandwidth and out of my mailbox. It's not my or anyone else's
fault that you can't figure out how to undo what you have done.
                        Love and Kisses,
                        Jess
P.S. I object to your calling me and anyone else a "looser"
     Looser than what?
