it's apparent that this list seems to have a few close-minded people on
this list. i get raked over the coals for asking one simple little
innocent question which seems to me offended a few people (boo hoo).
mr. forsla, isn't this probably pissing you off because i'm not using the
shift key. if it is, oh well, you'll get over it.
cz, you called me a troll for asking this question; "are there any kiss
fans out there?" i got on this list and asked that question as soon as
i was accepted. i was just trying to make conversation. i can't believe
anyone would cry over something like this so that's why i'm responding
to your little antics.
it's obvious that anyone who would wine about this doesn't have an open
mind towards other types of music. i'm so sorry about that disability.
for those who stood by my side (you know who you are), thanks alot. for
the ones who were pissed off (like i really give a shit). you can KISS
MY FUCKING ASS.
KEITH "DA MUSIC MAN" B.
p.s.
i'm anxious to hear what you cry babies have to say now so i'm not
going to signoff. that's what you really want me to do, but hey, you're
not gonna get your way with me.

There is a picture of a Kiss album boldly displayed next to the first Unrest
7" and LP, on the back cover of the 'Malcolm X Park' LP. (and what about
Alice Cooper? Time Stereo, the HNIA-related cassette label did a great
Cooper tribute cassette.)
What about a 4AD Kiss tribute album? (it's a pity the Cocteau Twins are no
longer on 4AD...)

Funny you mention that, Frank. About five or six years ago, some
friends and I (in the midst of some truly inspired boredom) thought it'd
be great to have a double-CD compilation of 4AD bands covering SubPop
bands and vice versa. Just try to imagine the Cocteaux covering
Mudhoney's "Touch Me I'm Sick"....
Okay, we had nothing better to do at the time, and it _was_ pretty
freaking late.... :)

I'm very keen to get a hold of this compilation. But I don't think it'll
make it's way to Singapore, where I'm from.
Know of any mail order houses I can place an order, or any kind soul out
there willing to help out a fellow listie by flying it over to me?
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

You can email these guys to find out where the
closest location of Polygram is in Singapore or
in your geographic area. As far as I know the compilation
is only available as yet in Canada, but that might have
changed since I read the article on this release.

I think the reason for the angry responses can be explained as follows:
Many people on this list, because they spend a great deal of time,
effort, money, etc. on their music, consider themselves to be a sort of
elite. They feel, with some justification, that their explorations of
music over the years have given them some insights into what separates
good music from bad, and perhaps a glimpse at the vague barrier between
music that is good and music that is _great_. Or whatever. If you
joined an English lit. list and posted a message, "I am the biggest
Steven King fan in the world I love all his stuff he is the world's
greatest writer, what do you guys think about hit???" you might pick up
some nasty responses there too, and people probably wouldn't be much
interested in what you had to say after that.
I am not sure that the above analogy is entirely accurate -- the kind of
music on here is very new, and the forms are not as clearly understood
and the centuries-old literary traditions in our language -- but the
point is that many people see things in those terms. Thus, you get
flamed. If you want to talk about kiss in a room full of 4ad fans, you
should probably get used to it.

May i note that your accusations of closed-mindedness and cry-babyosity are
unfounded and your "kiss my fucking ass" apology is childish but i'll deal with
the real issue at hand.
First off, you may not know what a "troll" is (see the definition below.
Secondly, i will revise my assessment of you in this way:
"You are *either* a troll or just too dense to realize that Kiss is to 4AD as
apples are to oranges."
There's no value judgement on which fruit is "better," but since we are all
gathered here under the auspices of discussing the virtue of oranges you'd be
wise to limit your discussion of apples or at least frame the discussion in
terms of it's relavence to oranges.
sorry to the rest of this list for draging you through this,
cz
