Sorry to bother the list about my problems.
Does anybody have any idea about what to do to these Maxell points they
have on the stickers of cassette- and videotapes?
I lost the address for the catalog..
Are they still running this program?
Any info greatly appreciated.

At this point I have to speak up in support of Tones On Tail, whom I've
long loved. Can someone give some reasons for dismissing them so rudely?
To me, they're more interesting than most Bauhaus and far superior to the
90%-dreadful Love And Rockets. Their music is all over the map, from
spooky instrumentals ("Copper") to post-Bauhaus gloom ("Burning Skies",
"Movement of Fear") to fuzztone rock ("OK This Is the Pops", "Christian
Says") to weird pop ("Lions", "There's Only One") to total weirdness
("Slender Fungus"). There's an odd sense of humor and willingness to
experiment that drives all their music.
Incidentally, "Movement Of Fear" is sampled by a rap-rock group called
the Funloving Criminals, on some song I keep hearing on the local Modern
Rock station. Pretty amusing. And it serves ToT right for ripping off
Pink Floyd's "Cirrus Minor" on "Lions"...
Which songs are on their eponymous 4AD EP, anyway? I haven't got that
one, and I imagine they're probably all on "Night Music".

* Hoo-haw! I was at a local used record shop today and noticed two old
Colourbox 7" singles. One was "Punch", which I picked up because I
didn't own it yet and the other was "Baby I Love You So" as autographed
by Loritta Grahame! It's still at Penny Lane on Queen West for $2!
* There is possibility of a new scheer EP before the end of the year.
Hopefully this will happen and if it does it'll probably be BAD 6020.
* There IS a promo 12" for Tanya Donelly afterall! It's a two tracker
with a catalogue number of T1.
* Apparently 4AD is "releasing" those infamous GusGus 12" promos to
exporters, who'll be shrink-wrapping both GUS1 and GUS2 together. Check
your local import people!
* The Jive Bombers are do-wopped to the the trash bin. Due to the
lengthy time it took for 4AD to get the rights sorted out, it seems the
time for a Jive Bombers release on 4AD has passed. Add "Bad Boy" to the
albums we'll never hear by The Rossberger Report, Going Home, etc...
* Back to Tanya Donelly again, it looks like her debut solo release will
be put out as a double 7"!! Cool! It will come out as a CD single as
well, of course.
* The first couple months of '97 features that aforementioned scheer EP
(if it doesn't see release this year), a single and new album from
Tarnation in January or February, debut 4AD albums from GusGus and Tanya
Donelly in March.
* Happy news for 4AD UK staffer Tony Morley. His Leaf record label has
been doing so well that this will be his last month at 4AD! If you have
yet to hear any of the fine 12" EP's from Tony's label, try seek them
out as they're worth getting into. His address is P.O. Box 11403,
London, SW2 12R.
* Also, try to seek out artists on the Detox label. Detox is run by
Colin and Lewis at 4AD UK. The first several releases are out soon and
the release from Aeroplane on 12" and CD single features a secret
vocalist who may happen to belong in the 4AD stable of artists! Check
the writing credits to find out who it is but the voice will be a dead
giveaway! Their address is the same as 4AD's - 15 Alma Road, London,
SW18 1AA. They use 4AD's distributer (RTM), so it's fairly easy to find
their releases via regular channels.

For one lucky 4ad-l reader/poster:
Correctly answered entries to the following 4AD trivia question will be placed
in my "Shaving The Pavement" tour cap and ONE random entry will be picked on
Oct. 29th, at which time the winner will be notified by e-mail. The winner
will recieve an unplayed mint copy of the "Head To Toe" 10" from The Breeders
(BAD D 4012). No answers to the list itself will be considered as an entry;
send to [email protected].
The question is... Which former member of a band Juliana Hatfield played in
contributes guitar to the new Lisa Germano album??? Name the guitar player AND
the band he and Juliana used to be to win...

So Jive Bombers becomes cat. no. IAD 6027, I guess.
That's a shame. I was so looking forward to this release
and the controversy it would generate. Thanks to a
listy friend I've heard at least part of it, and
I've got to tell you, this would have been the
most unusual thing yet to have the 4AD logo, and I'm sure
for some people it would have been the final nail in
4AD's coffin.

No. A friend and I both used to take advantage of this program, since both
of us buy so many blank tapes. For several years, they renewed the
program, with little publicity. This past January, my friend called the
number, with a request for a current form, as was curtly told the program
was over, with no intention of renewing it.
I tend to buy TDK now...

ages and ages ago there was a review of an insides demo tape in melody
maker, they said it was going to be released shorly but as usual they
lied. Both of the songs had 'blue' in the title and i think one of them
was called 'blueswailing'. Did they ever get released?, have they
released anything since the incredible 'clearskin'?, will their new
stuff come out on guernica?, have they got any new stuff?, whatever
happened to guernica?, does anybody care?.

nope, it ended at the end of last year. there has been some talk of it
starting up again but i don't know. the way it worked is you sent for a
sheet to stick all of your points to and when it was filled you could send
it in for free stuff. most people just chose free blank tapes, which were
delivered to your door seperately wrapped. even if you got 100 of them.
