Hello to you all 4ad-Land,

I didn't dare ask this to anyone in perticular,
but I was wondering if somebody would make me a tape
   of these :

   Fast Set "Junction One"
   Shox "No Turning Back"
   Dance Chapter "Chapter 2"
   Colourbox "Breakdown 1" (first version)

   and...

Mass "Labour Of Love", of course.

These are the only things from 4ad I have never ever heard
(official catalog must I precise, I have no idea of the sounds
Of Gus Gus serie of promo from 1 to 13 ).
I thought it was time for me to try them an ear or two.

If you have them for sale or know where I could find them,
you are more then welcome to send me a word, that is clear.
But if you have them but wish to keep them, I thought I
could send a tape + coupons for return shipping, you know
    the deal...

OH ! ... And I've never heard the new "Miracle" by Mrs Berry
nor did I see the cover since Polygram have been so bad
to distribute 4ad last few items (I think I'll have to
order it from 4ad themselves), but a quick scan of the cover =

=A0=A0=A0 would enlight my day if someone would be as sweet as sending
    it to me (I'm curious).

Finally, Believe it or not : I.....Have....not....received...
    my....copy...of.......THIS RIMY RIVER YET !!!!!!! ARRRGH !!!
    hmmmm.... sorry....

.....but does anyone else care ?

ooopss, wrong line, here I go again :

......but does anyone else share this situation ?

......or has it been censored by the customs for some
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0 oustrageous content ?

    =

=A0=A0=A0Happy Non-Anniversary, everyone,

Greetings...

I asked this before and no one even touched it. Apparently ther

are a good number of HNIA fans on this list so *someone* must know
what "His Name is Alive" means/is in ireference to. Could someone
please be so kind as to fill me in on this little detail. Who is He
that is the His? Quite perplexed. There music is quite wonderful.
Is this somekind of goofy Jesus reference or something?

Yours in Truth-

>From k-j's HNIA discog, that can be found at the eyesore 4AD Database:

"his name is alive are more or less a "sound lab", formed around the time that
warren defever was 16. the band name {supposedly} stems from some notes warren
had written in a history class pertaining to abraham lincoln. he thought it
sounded good, so he decided to name his next band 'his name is alive'."

I asked this question a few months ago, and the consensus was that
"HNIA" refers to Abraham Lincoln -- from a remark made by a high
school teacher, apparently.

There are people on the list who have interviewed Mr. Defever, but
none of them chimed in -- shame! -- so here I am.

Joking, not flaming.

This should be in the FAQ.=20

Maybe it *is* in the FAQ: I haven't read it lately...

i believe, although i know there are people on this list that can answer this
positively, that *his name is alive* refers to a dream that warren defever
had one night.. it was about abraham lincoln... and when he woke up all he
could remember was *his name is alive*...
someone corecct me if im wrong here....

The other night I saw a video by a band listed as His Name Is Still
Alive. The track was "Are we still married?" The clip was pretty
good, as was the song. Is this actually HNIA with a typo? Is it
some type of side-project band? Or is it a completely different band
who nobody knows anything about? Is that track from the latest
album?

For those in the Pac-NW, especially Seattle and vicinity, I'd like to
announce an upcoming experimental music performance at Anomalous Records
(in Seattle) on Oct. 19. The artists performing are:

phASER (yours truly; I'll be doing some layered sample-/loop-based sound
collage)

Waterbugs (of which Carl Farrow is a member; Carl's other project is
inBOIL, and I've always enjoyed his performances before, which have ranged
from noise-ish to almost Orbesque)

Tinty Music (which is Kevin O'Conner -- what I've heard I guess one would
describe as electronic ambient)

Intonarumori (about whom I am unfamiliar)

Anomalous Records is at 1402 E. Pike St., Seattle. The show is $4 and
begins at 9pm. Anomalous' phone # is 206.328.9339.

BTW, the place is a shop as well as a venue, and they seem to have a very
good selection of interesting material. The Anomalous postcard which
announces this performance describes A.R. as "a store, performance space
and gallery for experimental, abstract, electro-acoustic, ambient,
textural, sculptural, surreal, modern classical and other strange musics."

Cheers,

Thom
