I got my hands on the new Lisa Germano last Friday and all I can say is =

For anyone who does not know 'Geek The Girl' etc, this is a great =

Definitely get "Your Bag" It's an amazing album.. Bozo is good too, but
the Return of Red Emma is somewhat weaker, a little too "rock". At these
prices, you can't really go wrong. I'll probably buy a few copies of
"Your Bag" and give them as stocking stuffers!

Unfortunately, I ran out of time and didn't get a chance to sing it.

They also had "just like heaven." Well, that isn't so bad. Bad is the

(the concert) experience eclipsed any solo effort or differentiation that
Brendan would like recognized from Lisa. I think that she pulled off the
impression that she is the "force" in the band. In my opinion, her
talent as a singer really does blow away most folks (along with Brendan);
however, DCD is easily the sum of its parts--not to be divided,
factionalized or otherwise split. > Lisa and Brendan solo both pale alone
very thought-provoking analysis of dcd. im gonna
chew on this for a while and perhaps get back to
it later. this observation, coupled with the
frustrated-sounding texts by brendan in the tour
programme might seem to suggest that we may
be witnessing the end of dcd. there's an interview
with lisa at the dcd site where she says that they
are at the point where it has to end or else
go even further (to paraphrase) into the labyrinth.
one wonders if the two of them can get any closer.
and if not, dcd may very well be done for.

"Tie me up with dental floss/
Tie me up with love and say you miss me/
'Cause I keep putting on lip gloss/
And you won't kiss me." *
Tony was working in video production; Anna was in film school; Petra was
studying violin; and Rachel was taking classes toward a psychology
degree. Nobody expected that within a few months, that dog. would be
signed to a major label and touring the country. (For their first
record, the band signed to DGC, but in an unorthodox move, they allowed
Ivo Watts-Russell's 4AD label to release their disc worldwide.)
that dog. the record came out in late 1993 in the UK and in March '94 in
the US. The single and video for "Old Timer" made the college universe
sit up and take notice. "There was a certain chemistry that stuck out,"
says Tony, "because of the violin and the Andrews Sisters harmonies over
these thrashy little punky guitar songs."
The self-titled debut came out with two different cover designs. The UK
Guernica version features a dog with a bird in its' mouth on the cover
while the US Geffen cover features a pic of a little girl, arms out-
stretched and mouth wide open as if she was screaming. Both covers are
by that dog. while the Guernica one was overseen by Chris Bigg at v23
with a cool band logo by Paul McMenamin.
Members of that dog. can also be found on Cocteau Twins' opening act
Spain's album "The Blue Moods Of Spain" on Restless and on The Rentals
debut on Madonna's Maverick label.
Learn more about that dog. by visting the Geffen/DGC site...

I know it is not much warning but Lisa Gerrard does an interview on KCRW in
Los Angeles. The Web address is all that http stuff and then kcrw.org
They will broadcast on the radio and over the Web at approx 11:00 PST.
She talks about why Brendan stromed off stage on Sunday night. It is a very
good interview.
Enjoy

No, Brendan is not still in love with Lisa, No he was not mad at the
audience. This is the truth.
One rather profound phrase from Brendan's mouth sums it all up. "I DID NOT
COME HERE TO BE MEDIOCRE". That in itself is why we love DCD. Brendan is a
perfectionist and Sunday night things were not perfect. The touring band of
DCD is probably one of the most talented group of musicians around, however
people occasionally make mistakes. Of course most of these mistakes are not
something the normal or even avid fan will notice. I know Brendan and Lisa
were both a little concerned because some of the LA fans thought it was
because of the people shouting during the song. That is not what made Brendan
upset. Of course he really does not understand it, but that is ok. That is
all for now

Well, it seems that no one from this is list lives in San Diego or
went to the San Diego concert except me (I am from Tijuana-Mexico, by
the way).
Here are my five cents
DCD played in the small Spreckles 1,465 capacity theater. The show
sold out that same night. The crowd was very eclectic. Lisa got mad at
Robert Perry twice for forgetting to sing in a song. Then Robert was
trying to make things up by making goo goo eyes at her. Everybody on
the stage was laughing.
The best part was when Lisa came out alone to do the second encore by
herself. She did an accapella (sp?) version of "Host of Seraphim".
Before she did that, she explained that the song was requested by
Mara, a girl who had just lost her father. The performance of this
song was more than amazing, her lovely voice echoed all around the
small theater and everybody was enthralled by the special moment. A
lot of people were crying during this performance, it was very
emotional. Afterwards Brendan came out, hugged Lisa, who was also
crying and closed the show with "Dreams made Flesh". Another hug
followed the performance.
A lot of people from Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada were in the
theater. Probably half of the theater was filled with fans from
Mexico. I saw a lot of old friends in there. We love 4AD on this side

Gigantic2 is really a great comp -- I ordered it in 1990 when it came out
and it introduced me to a number of great bands (such as Pale Saints and
Kitchens of Distinction.) Some notes on a few of the listier tracks:
> The Breeders : I Just Want To Get Along
This is a different, more Pod-like (and much superior IMHO) mix to the
one that appeared on "Last Gasp^H^H^H^HSplash".
> Pale Saints : A Deeper Sleep For Stephen
Remix of "A Deep Sleep..." from "The Comforts Of Madness". Not too
different from the original, if memory serves me right, a bit spacier.
> Cocteau Twins : The High Monkey-Monk
Same as in the boxed set.
> Lush : Scarlet
Original version.
> Kitchens Of Distinction : Shiver
Nice live recording.
> Cranes : Untitled
I think this later showed up on the "Espero" EP [pre-"Wings Of Joy"]
under a different title.
[Confidential to Alex Wolfson: You're supposed to reply to the _seller_,
not to the whole dang list. The other 449 of us don't really need to know
whether you want to buy his CD.]

Wow! I know this would have put me over the edge. I dream
of seeing this live someday. It's the most profoundly
beautiful song I have ever heard, with Sanvean coming in
second. I can't believe I didn't make the trip to SD to
see this.
Apparently the KCRW interviews are available at their website,
so if you miss it, like I'm doing right now, you can download it.

A good friend of mine was not able to get a program from the DCD tour when
they came through town last week, and I'm hoping that someone at one of
the upcoming shows (Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, etc.) will be able to
help him out with one. If you are going to one of these shows and would
be willing to pick up an extra program, we'd be much appreciative (and
would whisk you off a check to cover the cost of the program and postage
as soon as possible).
Thanks,
-Brad

Yes, another Faye Wong posting.
By the end of this week, we will have the Random Thinking CD.
This is the one that has the two Cocteau Twins covers.
Same deal: $15.50 ($16.55 for CA residents), or order
both Random Thinking and Impatience for $30 ($32.29 for CA).
I really didn't think I'd be getting this other CD so soon,
so I apologize to those who already sent in their orders
who wanted both of them. I can't really offer you the discount
retroactively since we're so close to netting zero profit

I'll lay 5-to-1 odds they've gone all jungle on us. :)
BTW, I was rereading old Sandman comics and wondering once again whether
the idea for the song/title "Cuckoo" comes from the Sandman story "A
Dream Of You" which involves a rather nasty supernatural entity by that
name. It's a good analogy anyway; in today's distanced-from-nature world
few people seem to remember what the original symbolism of cuckoos was,
and think of them just as things in clocks. (For the curious: some
varieties of cuckoos don't make nests but lay their eggs in the nests of
other small birds. The cuckoo chicks generally push their nestmates out
of the nest to die, and get fed by their clueless foster parents. Pretty
sinister. This also explains why a man whose wife is cheating on him used
to be called a "cuckold".)
To cut the digression short, does anyone know whether Toni or Dean were
fans of the Sandman?

I am pleased to report that my Rykodisc copy of Limbo arrived at my doorstep
via UPS promptly at 11:00 this morning...
Hats off to Rykodisc for excellent work in distribution.
In addition to the unlisted 13th track, it features a bonus VIDEO
track..."Ruthie's Knocking"... recorded live on 3/17/96.
Unfortunately, my computer needs to take some vitamins before I can view it,
but it should be a knockout...I don't know if the UK version sports this
feature.

What do you mean "apparently"? I looked all over that friqin
site and can't find anything newer than about 29 July.
No mention of DCD anywhere.

It is true. I saw the entire commercial yesterday on ESPN2 while
watching some kickboxing. The commercial is long, but the version of
the song (as much as I could tell upon one listen) was unchanged. At
least ME did not change the lyrics for them.
Have it your way,

I am connected now (14 aug '96, 02:45 am local time of Italy) with their
site, http://www.kcrw.org/g/upcoming.html, it's still not avaiable but for
what I understand they'll let it be downdoadable.

I'm afraid not. The CDplus format (Audio tracks plus one or a few
video/multi-media tracks) never took off in Europe...

Last week somebody asked if there are any differences between the ESP
Beetles tape on Time Stereo and the recent ESP Beetles 'Spinnerin' tape on
Generator (G-023). Well, they are the same, or not??
The 'With The...' Time Stereo cassette features:
1. Last Song
2. No Songs
3. Quiet
4. Jason Tape
5. Kill Me
6. Hurry Up
7. Right Now
The 'Spinnerin' cassette on Generator contains:
1. Last Song
2. No Songs
3. Quiet
4. Jason Tape
5. Kill Me
6. Hurry Up
7. Right Now
Is the Generator cassette a remix? Or what?

Well, straight from the horses mouth ( Davin that is...) it IS the same...
just a different release on a different label, with different 'artwork'.
