Sorry, but I laughed out loud when I read this. Sure it's a record, but
it definitely shows RHP moving/progressing in their music. Heck, they
didn't get off 4ad for nothing. This album has the Neil-Young-RHP songs
and big guitar solos! And a Cars cover that blows the original out of the
water! Right on! Rock on! I'd be bored to death if they released just
another album (see Lush)... But yeah, when I was 17, Down Colorful Hill
kicked my ass too.

Hmmm...well I actually think that this new RHP album is their best yet,
even better than that 'Rollercoaster' one. I think it has more color to
it than previous works. And I do like the female vox on some songs - it
breaks the monotony of Mark's voice.
As much as I like this new album though, I have to admit it, the guitar
solo in the 3rd song is *terrible*. Even I can abuse an axe better than
that! I can see why Ivo wanted it to go....
Somewhat more worrying is the abundance of cover versions on this RHP
album - there's a Yes cover, a Car's cover and (choke) a Wings cover.
Also, the second song is a bit too close to Mazzy Star's 'Fade Into You'
for comfort. And there are two long electric songs, both of which sound
like the result of listening to too much Neil Young. I mean, even the
beginning of 'Silly Love Songs' sounds like 'Cortez The Killer' to these
ears. But hey, if you are going to pay homage to someone, who better than
Young comma N fullstop :-). And the cover versions sound pretty good, too
(I would not have believed anyone if they told me that one day I would be
whistling 'Long Distance Runaround' to myself all the time - it's a good
thing that Mark K. didn't choose to cover 'Close To The Edge' or 'The
Gates of Delerium'!)
But overall, I think that 'Songs For A Blue Guitar' is full of wonderfull
moments. Just skip past the guitar solos.
Cheers,
Geoff

I was going to drop in a line about this, you beat me to it Dez. I
don't really think sticking record sleeves all over a gallery works.
Sure individually they are very nice and everything, but maybe I
just hate galleries, too impersonal, too staged. We did however get
very interested in the CDs stuck on the wall - there were a couple there
I haven't got...! By all means call in if your in Manchester andhave
sometime free.
I want one of those buckets.
Whatever you do don't go upstairs. There is stuff about some Greek
myth or something where the poetry fella goes into the underworld
made horribly modern, badly (I never did classics at school) dreadful
dull paintings done for some cheap kids books to be given as presents
by people who hate kids. The worst was the artist was there on
Saturday so we couldn't really complain out loud. The, ahem, poetry
underneath was even worse.
Finally Dez, wher is this cheap cafe in the corner house? The only
one I can find gives tiddly portions for half a mint.
Richard.

I'm thinking of ordering the Lonely Is An Eyesore video.
Have any of you seen it? Is it essential? Recommended?
Thanks for your input.

If you like the music and want to understand all of those pictures on the
LIAE cd/album sleeve you should buy it... there are some nice moving images
on it. Not essential but recommended.
>(p.s. I'm a DCD fan.)
Two DCD movies on the video (the second one without Brendan and Lisa but
with some naked guy running and diving in the woods and under the water)

So far we've had a good response just from 4ad-L about
Ms. Wong's album, and I think at this point we will definitely
be ordering more once we sell out of the initial 25. Therefore
don't hold back just because you think you'll be too late to
make the top 25. Consider our supply unlimited.

Brendan's solo record is on hold right now. Presently he does not know if he
wants to do one. As I am sure you are aware he has spent time working on
this solo recording, however it is not complete. It is basically up to
Brendan. If he decides to finish and put out the record it will come out.
That is all nothing to profound.

Lush appear live on Much Music's altera-rock show "The Wedge" on
Thursday, August 15th at 5:30pm and 2:00am eastern time. There will be
some songs played and the usual "hi-how-are-you-doing?" banter with the
group. Still no domestic "500" EP here yet... Darn. Why isn't this
getting played on more stations??

The article devoted to Lush in the recently released "Volume 16" contains
this fun 4AD fact: "Single Girl" from Lush is the biggest-selling 4AD
single since M/A/R/R/S' "Pump Up The Volume" single from 1987! Lush
contribute a new Miki composed track "Half And Half" to the companion CD.

Just wondering if anyone has picked up the vinyl version of "Miracle"
from Heidi Berry yet. The copy I have doesn't have a custom v23 inner
sleeve, just a generic blank white one. Was there a custom sleeve for
the vinyl? There is a lot of info like contributing musicians,
publishing info and lyrics that are missing from the vinyl version if my
copy is like all the rest.
Great album, by the way. Too bad "The Devil" from that "Shaving The
Pavement" cassette isn't included. It should have been added to round
off the album to ten tracks. Oh well, I guess "The Devil" will
forever remain a non-CD song...

The Devil isn't on there???!!!
That was a great song and was going to make me give HB another try (i like the
album i have but ... ya know, it's just not as good "The Devil" with that
haunting violin). Did Brendan Perry produce any of the other tracks on the
album? Is it worth my hard earned cash?

Oh yes there is!! And a very nice one indeed!! They used a more adventurous
typeface for the lyrics than that boring typeface used in the CD booklet.

'The Devil' is superior to anything on 'Miracle'. It was recorded with

Are you sure "Pump Up The Volume" was on 4AD. My copy says 4th and Broadway
and its the original vinyl at the time? Otherwise, i'm glad Lush is doing
so well. I wish the new album was as good as the single.

Ivo licensed the M/A/R/R/S "Pump Up The Volume" project in the USA to the
fine folks at 4th & Broadway, a division of Island Records. Is there not
a 4AD logo anywhere on this version at all? The Canadian versions came
out via Mercury/Polydor, the Japanese ones from Nippon Columbia, etc...
