Ach, such language. And such bitterness, too. Tsk, tsk.
If you really had to ask, the Coctail Twins ruined themselves for me
about three years ago when it became painfully apparent that they'd been
thoroughly and completely dead boring for at least the previous two
years. The whole "chicken pot pie" thing only came up years afterwards.
Five years ago one might have caught us dancing around the house
singing "peach tree schnapps my uvula" to "Blue Bell Knoll" while
getting psyched up to see the Twins gig (true fact, trainspotters!), but
nowadays, zip, nothing, zilch.
[Admittedly that 'Otherness' EP was a reason for mild turgidity last
year, but that's more Mark Clifford's doing.]
By the way, if those Twins taught you the irrelevance of coherent
lyrics, I hazard a guess that you don't listen to a lot of instrumental
or foreign musical works. Ever heard of Coltrane? Beethoven? Diamanda
Galas? Patty Waters? All those Bulgarian women wailing on and on
sublimely about whatever they're wailing sublimely about?
I suppose I could have a fellow list subscriber ruined for me by the
inanity of his posts, but that'd be utterly presumptuous on my part.
Begone indeed.

I was playing "Euphoria" from Insides today and just had to express my
sadness that Ivo didn't lock up J. Serge and Kirsty into a longterm deal.
Insides are one of 4AD's coolest and under-rated recent bands. Why, oh
why does Ivo not want to work with Insides? They have lots of post-
"Euphoria" stuff recorded but will it ever see the light of day?

To all of you out there who are eagerly waiting here's a short message I was
asked to spread re the Rimy River ltd. ed. situation.
The waiting will be over soon. According to the one poor soul whose job it is
to wrap and send them they are currently being put in their boxes and all will
be shipped out by the end of this week. This, however, only applies to the UK
and the rest of Europe. Wrapping the babies seems to be a somewhat difficult
job because of their size - they are larger and heavier than the regular
version.
The copies for the USA have already been sent over and will be taken care of by
4AD US. He could not tell how they will go on about sending them out.

Yes, I have heard of all of those--although I find Diamanda Galas to
be quite understandable; after all, she has a "message" to convey ;)
I like the Bulgarian women, as far as the rest go I'm not all that interested
in instrumental music--it takes a lot for me to like an instrumental song.
I quite clearly stated in my post that it was the vocals I care about, just
not the lyrics.

I think this underscores the fact that lyrical "interpretation" is wholly
based upon the individual's 'database' of personal references. I've always
maintained that Liz is singing "Jericho". "Cherry Coke" never occurred to
me at all... I also never heard the "chicken pot pie" thing, although I can
see how someone can get that from whatever she's singing. She could just as
easily be singing "take him apart"...I guess I just don't often think of
food and cocteau twins together. Several people think she's singing "sugar
hiccup on cheerios", as well. If these things are true, it's no wonder Liz
was a little overweight for so many years...poor diet. :)

I will definitely be at this show. I saw RHP with Heidi Berry a few years
back and that show was amazing. Then I saw Mark perform a solo show a
year and a half ago. A very emotional show I thought, though many weren't
impressed from what I heard. But I look forward to seeing them again.

Not to be a spoilsport, but given that employees of 4AD and Warner Bros.
have been known to read this list in the very recent past, you might want
to prepare yourself for a fun little chat with a few of their lawyers. I
think the music industry's gotten pretty blase about people pirating
cassettes, particularly home-produced ones, but CD piracy scares the
bejeebers out of them because the reproduction quality is identical to
the original.
My point is not at all related to the ethics of piracy*, just a simple
CYA. It might have been wiser to use a forged email address or something
harder to track down than @UCSD.EDU...

I was at that RHP/Heidi Berry show, too. It was a very impressive
performance, by both. I happen to prefer the earlier RHP to their more
recent stuff, but I'm sure they still put on a great show. And I really
enjoyed hearing Heidi live, too. I also met her after the show and she
was most gracious and friendly. I'm looking forward to her new album, too.
That's what I miss about the BPig - it's so small and there's no
backstage, so I could meet just about anyone I saw there (Kirsty MacColl,
Velocity Girl, Tsunami...)

I know what you mean about the Blind Pig. I had seen Heidi Berry perform
an instore at Schoolkids earlier in the day and then during the RHP's set
I watched the show with Heidi and her other guitarist and we chatted off
and on about all kinds of crazy shit. And then I met Mark again at his
solo show and we just talked for a good long time about various musical
things. It's a very cozy place to actually sit down with an artist and
get to know them briefly. So anyone RHP fans who live near the Blind PIg
should definitely go!

the way she says it, it could be mistaken for cherry coke...

Hello.
>>I just read that one of the Dead Can Dance shows was cancelled due to
Lisa's illness.<<
Ms. Gerrard's a sickly sort ain't she? Anybody wanna tally up the total
number of cancellations on this tour alone due to Lisa's "illness"?
Also, anyone going to the Atlanta show wanna pick me up a couple of tour
programmes (with full compensation of course).
I'm missing this show and a friend who had been cancelled out on in London
wants one as well.
Thanks.

I am posting these again due to a few requests.. If you have already made up you
mind about the tapeswap one way or the other you can delete now, but if
you are intrigued or have questions read on.. This is just a repeat of the earli
r post I, er, posted. Also, 'scuse my vax system; It has a touch of
indegestion....
A-HEM....
*Lisaroo, what is the great Tape Swap?
Well, young roolet, you simply send yer address (email and snail) to moi,
care of [email protected]. Soon I will send you someone else's address
BY EMAIL for whom you will kindly make a tape for your
swaping partner, as they will for you.
*Do we need to do anything else, roo?
you may either just snail away or email to your new found friend to find
out what their tastes are, don't own, are alergic to...
*Can I only send 4ad stuff? Where do the Cocteaus fall?
Music is not limited to 4ad, since many here love ESP or Red House Painters
but it's not exactly 4ad anymore, now then is it?
So this is up to you, but we at TAPESWAP reccomend that
you avoid any hootie, smootie, quiet riot, alannis and anything else
containing a level of preteniousness hazardous to young music lover's health....
Also, keep in mind that since this *is* afterall the 4ad list, people sill
probably already have all the cocteaus, etc. Thus it is a good idea to ask!
*What do I do if my person ignores me or does't send me a tape?
I, Lisaroo, do hereby swear that *I* will personally send you a tape and
some other lil' goodies, maybe even cookie recipies ;)
and maybe I can work a deal to sick the gin blosssoms on them as eternal
damnation... I do my best..
*How long can I get in on this sweet offer?
I will be accepting entries until THE LAST DAY IN AUGUST. I may go ahead
and swap some people sooner so that we can get on with this mongoloid thing..
Not a minute later! I will be starting school, and at the moment I'm scheduled
for 18 hours plus two weenie language lab hours. My GPA will not wait for
errant folk who ignored the ONE MONTH entry period.
* What if there are special problems like adresses in finland?
People far away are invited wholeheartedly. We had Finland and Austrailia
and South Africa last time if I'm not mistaken. HOWEVER if you are poor
please indicate so, so that I will not send you someone to whom you'll have
to mail30 dollars worth of postage to... I understand, believe me...
*At what date should I panic and complain If I haven't gotten my tape?
Let's say the end of September, okay? It takes time to go through all
your everyday life tediums, so let's allow some time for that...
You'll more than likely get it sooner though.. If you suspect your
erstwhile pal is blowing you off, let me know and I will make sure you get
some new tunes one way or another, k?
Happy tapeswap to all, and to all a good tapeswap!
send me a letter if you're in...
Kanga and Lisaroo
