"...what are you wearing the day AFTER tomorrow??"
Well, I walked into Tower Records Friday afternoon and was immediately
offended when I noticed that their was a Livonia section and that their
"His Name Is Alive" album proudly on display. Hmmmm, are Livonia a new
band on 4AD? It was the UK import, too! I went to the manager and
demanded that this "error" be fixed.
After that, I asked the person at the order desk to look out for that new
Japanese Lush compilation. The order desk girl went into her database
and looked in her CD International book and responded with, "We don't
have a listing on that title". I told her it was a new release, not even
out until August 31st but she continued to tell me that it doesn't exist,
which, technically is right but, jeeeez...
Oh the pain!!!
To take away my anger I went to Tower's magazine area and checked out
their s&m/bondage section. Pretty big section. The new issue of "Ropes
and Razors" has an article on painless self-mutilation... Fun stuff!
I finally picked up the CD version of "Stars on ESP", the UK edition. I
prefer the CD sound to the apparently mono mix on the vinyl. What bugs
me is that, not only are there different covers for the vinyl and CD but
that the US CD has a different cover image! I can't keep up with it all,
let alone get the new ESP Swamp and ESP Raccoon limited 10" picture
discs! Despite all that, "Stars On ESP" is one damn fine album!
The first 1,000 copies of the Canadian version of Lisa Germano's
"Excerpts From A Love Circus" (Sept. 11th) are released in a special
collectors' digipack. Cool stuff!
The new "Rolling Stone" has very complimentary reviews of "Limbo" from
Throwing Muses and "Songs For A Blue Guitar" by Red House Painters. And,
the AP with Dead Can Dance on the cover has a nice blow up of the "Limbo"
cover art. The "Shark" single is on TWO 7"-ers just to make it even more
fun to be a collector, not too mention a Ryko "Ruthie's Knocking" CD...
The rumor is that there is already plans for a Tanya Donelly solo album
by the end of '95. Now that Belly is split up, I wonder if 4AD will put
together a definitive Belly B-side, remix and demo compilation?
Does anyone know who is opening for Lush's current North American tour?
The ads only say "guests", so I assume it will be The Jive Bombers and
Red Atkins. But if anyone can confirm actual openers, I'd super
appreciate it!
I have resigned myself to the fact that I'll never "finish" my 4AD
collecton. I'll just have to be proud of what I do have and be happy
knowing my collection is different than anyone elses and that others' are
different than mine. Well, with that said, here is my capsule "want
AXIS 3 BAUHAUS: Dark Entries 7"
AXIS 4 SHOX: No Turning Back 7"
BAD 806 CD ULTRA VIVID SCENE: She Screamed CD single
BAD 910 CD PALE SAINTS: Barging Into The Presence Of God CD single
Has anyone recieved their copies of the "This Rimy River" deluxe edition
yet? I'm curious as to what everyone thinks of it. Does it have
"essential purchase" status? Also, does anyone have a vinyl copy of
scheer's "Infliction"? I'm keeping mine sealed. I just need a
description of the inner jacket and labels...
Well, that's all for now. Take care, fellow 4AD-ers...

Polly Jean Harvey (to name a few)
I just bought the latest Red House Painters cd: great album, very nice
sleeve (I'm glad they asked v23/Paul McMenamin), Ivo and John in the thank
you credits - just like a 4AD release... I know the background but I still
don't get it.

I think that track "Little Spacey" is one of the most fun they have ever
recorded. I heard chicken pot pie as well, when i first bought it, and i
thought that was really funny...it surely didnt ruin it for me, rather
enhanced it. I hope they really do say it, cuz the cox really have a goofy
sense of humor and this would surely fit in with that.

The end of '95? Wow, that was quick! I guess that's kind of like saying, "I WA

Gerry, Livia and Toni,
There is a discussion brewing on 4ad-l about how on Cocteau Twins'
"Little Spacey" there is a percieved lyric that Liz sings that sounds TOO
much like "chicken pot pie"!! Go ahead and listen to it closely and see!

Hey folks,
I'd like to take this moment to float an idea and see what interest
there is. A few years ago, I put together a compilation tape of
lush rareties called _fLUSH_. I basically took all the rare tracks
in my collection and combined it with contributions from others
and made a few 110 minute tapes of b-sides, comps, and live bootleg
material.
Well, I now have access to one of those "CD burners" that make "one
time write" CDs. So, I'm thinking of doing _fLUSH II: the CDs_.
The catch is that the way it is set up, I can only use digital
sources (CD or DAT). So, at the moment, I'm only considering tracks
that are available on CD. However, if anybody has a DAT recorder,
let me know! (It would be cool to have "Rupert the Bear" and the
Drum Club remixes on CD!)
What I am thinking of is a 2 disc set with the songs listed below.
The problem is that only own CD copies of about half the songs.
I will need to borrow the ones marked with a *. Here's the deal
for contributors: You send me the CD with the song(s) in question,
plus the $$$ for 2 blank CD-writeables. I'll create _fLUSH II_
then send you back your original plus _fLUSH II_. I don't expect
to make any money off this, nor do I think I should.
Right now this is just in the planning stages, but if you are
interested and you have a CD with one of the tracks I am missing,
please let me know.
Another note... I haven't included the b-sides which are on _Cookie_.
I expect I will delete whatever songs are on the forthcoming Japanese
mini-album, too. But, we'll see what other folks want to do.

You know, the 2 years I've been on this list, it seems we've all made alot
of friend from all over the world.... granted we've had our differences and
name bashing, but you have to admit we all share a common nterest...and passion
So I was wondering if anyone would be interested in having a large festival
of sorts...sorta like "All Virgo's..." only organized by the fans.
Certainly to be the first gathering for a record label that I know of
created by the fans if we did such a thing.
I'm sure some of us even have connections to some of the band members that
we could invite as well....
I'm sure it would take some planning by a few volunteers, probably for a
summer '97 goal or something like that.... perhaps somewhere central...
Chicago, Kansas even? or maybe New York? or even Livonia?
I was just wondering what everyone thought of it....

WOW!!!!, I didn't know that the USA was the center of the world.... Anyway,
i like the idea but on a geographic point, i think there should be a
festival in the USA, one in Europe, one in Asia, one in Australia, one in
South America, and maybe one in outer space...
