I have this soundtrack....and enjoy it a lot.

Yes, that is Michael Brook. Is "Cobalt Blue" even in print anymore?

The rest of the soundtrack is eclectic but really good.
Kronos Quartet (with some members of Pavement
on guitar) play all the incidental music. Other tracks by Lisa Gerrard,
Einsturzende Neubauten, Moby (edited track from
the Joy Division tribute LP), Brian Eno (cool, but a little
monotonous), a track from the U2/Eno "Passengers"
LP...nope, a John Huges film soundtrack this is not.

Just reading Billboard the other day, March 30th issue. It looks like
the American office is hoping for Sheer to make a shplash. (of course)
some quotes:
"described as 'pop metal'"
"will promote 'Infliction' by joining forces with headliner Lush and Mojave 3
on a 4AD package linked with Rolling Stone magazine called Shave the Pavement
tour."
"Sheer signed with 4AD, despite bigger monetary incentives, simply because it
is a lable that loves music and the business is second."

Shoot, they sold out the Whiskey plenty quick without help from Rolling Stone.
Lush seem to be getting pretty darn big anyhows.

Subject: MBV "Whore" track in real time

Hey there:

Well, after a nasty hard drive crash, my dept.'s web server
is back in action, and my zine Dreampop is open
for business.

My LP review section has the MBV track from the Wire
tribute CD digitized using the TrueSpeech realtime audio algorithm
by DSP Group. Aesthetically, it's about the same as Real
Audio at 14.4 (it's actually very low-bandwidth as
the files are streamed at 8.5kbps).

The player/helper app (and Netscape
2.0 plug-in) is available from the DSP Group.
I have a link from my page to the download page.
The helper app/plugin is available for
Mac and Windows of all flavors (sorry no UNIX or Amiga).
You can always save the downloaded WAV file
to disc though and play back with a program
that plays WAV files.
I also have the Lush contribution to the Wire tribute CD
posted as well.

here's the URL for my zine:

then select the "latest blasts" link on the intro. info. page.
The link to get the TrueSpeech player is at the top
of the reviews page...click on the "TS" icon.

There's some other clips/LP reviews of stuff you might like.
I kinda think of it was my "retro" collection of "new" CDs
as I finally bought some stuff I've heard before
but never owned.

Take it easy,

Subject: new ep out on drive-in season

Hi all,
we don't muck around at Drive-in Season - in the past few months we have
been searching the far corners of the world for the finest pop songs ever to
be heard...we found them & now we present them to you - all 7"s of them.
Here's what's in those grooves......

First of all we have the CAT'S MIAOW - "Stay"...(Steinbecks meet the cats -
literally!)
next up is the first release from THE SINGING BUSH - "Richard,
Richard"...formerly known as half of Even As We Speak, a song about Mary's
'fling' with a famous Sydney DJ!
then comes 'Paris Kiss' from the "SHAPIROS", my fave, Pam's fave, Barts
fave...your fave!
and finally "MADISON ELECTRIC" with the wonderful, dreamy, purrrrrfect 'v-neck'.

This e.p is out now and should be available at all good indie-pop record
distributors (Parasol, Slumberland, 4LW,.....& we're working on distributors
in Japan, Singapore & France too)
If you have any trouble locating a copy, then have no hesitation contacting
one of your friendly drive-in attendants...

esp beetles is noizzzzzz-eee, harsh (you all might not like it)
mystic moog orchestra is about sixteen area detroiters (like me) who
simultaneously play our moogs. it's really loud and somewhat un-musical.
read about it in the new raygun.
ooooooooh!

i forgot about
esp family... it's my favorite warren side thingy. it's country-ish.

For all those of you (perhaps at least one or two? Or am I flattering myself?)
waiting for my next Lush tour report, I trhought I'd wait until I'd done a few m

gigs before posting my opinion of the Leicester gig...

For various reasons I was unable to make Gloucester Arts Centre, Blackwood
Miners Institute, Exeter Cavern or Plymouth Cooperage (the haunted venue! It's
true!), but now that my concussion is over, I'm looking forward to shooting off
o
Tunbridge Wells tonight. A tiny place called the Forum, which in bygone days
used to be a public lavatory (also true, dammit!).

'Cobalt Blue' still seems to be in plentiful supply at least here on the
East Coast, where even every HMV and Towhore Records seems to carry it.

His collaboration with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan btw is one of the best
purchases I've made this year. Absolutely stunning.

while it is ok to have your personal opinions about the music on Lush's
Lovelife, it is completely wrong to espouse your opinions on why they made
the record and what they were attempting.
Unless that is, of course, that you are friends with the band (which I highly
doubt by your review). Some would argue that if you do not have anything good
to say about a band then do not say anything. They are artists, and it is
not our job to critcize. It is our job to make our OWN decisions. Period.

One last point I would like to make. You lumb all the songs in together,
while some of the songs have been written for a long time. Some of them were
written well before Split. If they appeared on Split would you have liked
them? I bet you would have.

Some info and a question re: upcoming Stereolab tour. The following was sent
to me:
 ----------
Forwarded from the DroneOn mailing list:

For those of you drone types that are interested, Stereolab is gearing
up for a tour of the west coast. The dates I have are as follows:

Date City State Venue
04/25/96 Fullerton CA California St. University
04/26/96 San Diego CA Brick By Brick
04/27/96 Pomona CA Glass House
04/29/96 W. Hollywood CA Troubadour
04/30/96 San Francisco CA Great Amer. Music Hall
05/02/96 Portland OR La Luna

Has anyone heard of dates for Washington? I was kinda hoping to
take a few days and do the SF, Portland, Seattle whirlwind tour
but I haven't seen an announcement of any Seattle date.
_____________________________________________

I was wondering if any on this list had any info about a Seattle date. I
imagine they will be playing in my fair city, but if not I'll wanna get tix
for PDX.

Thanks and pls. cc: to me personally...
