So the limited edition has been reissued in France. Doesn't that destroy the
whole "limited editioness" of the CD? I mean, it's would be like suddenly
reissuing the LIAE deluxe limited edition...doesn't that bother anyone?

Yes this is true. They have been touring supporting They Might Be Giants.
Don't know about any releases.

i think the fact that the cd was "limited to 10,000," in the first place
destroyed the whole limitedness of the cd, so no, it doesn't bother me. you
can still get them around here for like $13 if you want them (though some
people on this list try -- usually unsuccessfully -- to sell them for more.)
anyone else find this lame?

anyone who would "limit" a cd to 10,000 is just plain silly. that's why
whenever i see a "limited numbered edition" piece, and the number's like
17,000 something, i just laugh. anything over about 4,000 or so isn't
really that limited (at least in the 4ad-listening world).

just my thoughts,

Hey all,

I recently stumbled upon a review of Caroline Lavelle's debut "Spirit" (in the
LA Weekly if you must know) and happened to hear a track from that album the
next day. I must say, this might be of interest. I thought it was a lovely
piece of work. For those of you who don't know who Caroline is, she's a famed
Cellist who's played (the cello of course) for a wide variety of cool artists
(even though those names escape me right now).
So anyway, after an entire paragraph of rambling, let me get to the point of
my post, anyone heard this album? Any reviews? Comments?

the Lilliput CDs, any takers, no?, OK, how about a CT, DCD, TMC or HNIA

required. It's little stars with the ray face on them hanging from a big
ray star. Kinda cool, if you're into FB. Still no? OK, make me an offer.

Listening to Velocity Girl's, Gilded Stars, pretty good so far.

Good News!

Lisa, Brendan and a few friends, also known as Dead Can Dance, are
performing live in Carre, Amsterdam on June 27 (thursday) and 28 (friday).
The support act for both concerts: Ygdrasil.

Tickets sale starts on suturday March 9...

In 1993, Dead Can Dance started their world tour in Amsterdam, I don't know
if these two are their first concerts this year.

Who are 'Ygdrasil'?

perhaps someone here knows about a CD release of 'The Marble Index'? They
do't have any information about it in Poland, even in the shops where they

BTW, the 300/500 thing has been discussed several times before on here. It
simply refers to the rpms of the CD. It goes 300 at the start (inside the CD)
and 500 by the time the playback head reaches the outside. (or do I have that
backwards?)

ok you're shaky about trading. There's nothing 100% guaranteed on these
matters. However, it sounds like you made a deal with this person and then
backed out of it, just to secure your end. I would be pissed too if someone

seeing this reply by this person is not too surprising. Were you expecting

Dear Jason,

Thanks for sticking up for me and my sad situation on the list. That
little brat -- i had thought he was polishing up his character when he
posted that ear/rational reliability stuff. The irony of it mounted each
day, but I said nothing.

What's funny is that my threats to him were completely hollow...I never
planned to actually defame him in public places. I just don't have it in
me to get into that kind of mess over a stupid cd. But I thought the
threat of it might get him to send it to me. Now it looks like he's doing
my work for me -- astute listies will know not to get mixed up in any
deals with him.

Well I've decided I can't stop the world because one of its residents
sucks, so I would still like to trade with you. There was a post about
the Xymox A Day/Stranger 12" the other day on this list, did you see it?
Someone was saying they had been looking for it for years. I've never
really liked it much myself, so I will be glad to trade it and the
Shelleyan Orphan for the Mirror Pool. Isn't that what we had agreed upon?
You do know that my copy of Century Flower is a promo copy? Just making
sure that is okay.

Let me know if you are still interested. If so I suggest we try the same
technique that failed so miserably with the erik situation. It's a good
technique -- i knew he was jerking me around 2 days after I mailed.

I don't think seefeel have broken up. Just last week I talked to Mark
Clifford and he said that seefeel had taken a couple of months apart.
During this time he has done all his Disjecta work, with the full-length
album waiting for only the artwork to be done, and released soon.
He also mentioned that seefeel are now reassembling to start their next

Whee! I've actually bought some interesting albums.

Tarnation - Gentle Creatures

Never before have so many people been so right. 1) You've got these
nice country tunes sung by Paula. 2) You have these vile "jokey"
country tunes from hell sung by some guy that should be shot. Several
times. And then strangled. The first time I listened to this album, I
kinda smiled at those... songs. Now I just wish I had a remote for my
cd player. Those songs are *bad*. Badbadbad. *Bad*!

Paulas songs are good, though. I don't know whether they are great or
not, but her songs are, like, Country Songs That Don't Suck And Don't
Souns Like Badalamenti Either. Which is definitely a plus. Me like.
Does she have a solo album out soon?

Bel Canto - Magic Box

I saw "Rumour" on the tv some time back, and it sounded so...
Smooth. Not like the Bel Canto we all know and love. I now have the
album, and indeed -- it's a very *produced* album. It's not boring,
though. There are exciting, new, hep & cool sounds aplenty.

Now -- the songs. Ahh! Some of the songs are pure heaven. It's
like... I want to jump out of my chair and explode in a burst of
millions of stars. Or something. Neat!

I think all the previous albums had a definite Belgian/Norwegian feel
to them. This one definitely does not have that. Buy it anyway.

Lush - Ladykiller 1 & 2

Now, I've listened to these two thingies several times, and I still
can't recall anything about them. The title track is
Elastica-by-numbers, even though it's not as bad as Single Girl. I
think. The rest of the tracks (six-count-em-six) just sort are there.
I'm sure they're nice and everything. I probably should just listen
to them some more.

"Plums and Oranges" seems like a nice track. It's the only songs
written by Emma. All the rest are by Miki, more or less. A clue!
Miki bad Emma good? Is that it?

Why have Lush released 14 tracks b-side tracks?

Coil - Black Light District

"Cool!" I thought. "Coil have finally released a followup to Love's
Secret Domain." My sweaty hands grabbed the album, and I slunk out of
the store (after paying). Alas! Alack! How my hopes were crushed!
This is yet one more release in their groundbreaking "let's tap
a keyboard key once every few minutes in our sleep" series. Not that
they're bad at tapping keyboard keys in their sleep, but it doesn't
exactly set the world on fire. It's ok.

Autechre - Anvil Vapre

Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! Tikka-tikka-tikka-tikka-crunch!

And that's just the first track!

Actually, I liked this EP just fine. I don't think anything Autechre
have ever released is as good as their first album, though.

And that's it. What did *you* buy yesterday, then?

Agreed. The others had that out-of-the-rarefied-cold-air sort of feel to them
(... even *shimmering warm and bright* had that
snuggle-up-to-the-fireplace-to-escape-the-cold sort of feel) but this one...
well buy it and figure it out for yourself.

...why haven't we heard anything from e, our official forwarder of dewy-fields
info?

> And that's it. What did *you* buy yesterday, then?

If you must know, i spent too much. Bought:

*Murder Ballads* by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
old CD by VG Jog (violin) and Zakir Hussain (tabla)
*Night Song* by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook
*Dream* by U. Srinivas and Michael Brook

Hopefully i'll have time to review the pertinent ones for this list.

Subject: What if Lush.....

Before I start I would just like to say that you liked Lush's
"Gala" then you should get Pale Saints "in ribbons", awesome CD! I just
got it at music trader. God bless them!

here's some questions to ponder.......

What if Merial never left lush? (pretend her boyfriend at the time
died, so they have no reason to boot her out)

Do you think they would be better or worse?
Do you think they would have even gotten signed?
Would the have risen to promenence (fame)?
Would they have done that "airy fariey thing" on Spooky?
Or just stayed punky, like they're doing now?

I don't think that they would sound too diffrent because Miki and
Merial almost exactly sound exactly alike. But I don't think they would
have ever made Spooky.

One more question, when did they throw Barham out?

                                  Opinions please,
                                            Brian

If you dig on Nico, check out the movie Nico Icon. I believe it is still
playing around. It came out about 2 months ago. it is not a flattering
look at her at all. It is very real and at times kind of funny. They have
some real good interviews and some live Velvet Underground footage. The
thing is that the sound during the VU stuff is the original record and
not them playing live. that was kind of disappointing. There is this one
part where the narrator is talking with Nico's mom and they put "I'll be
Your Mirror" on the record player and Nico's mom sings along. Awkward
moment.

these are the only 3 I know about.
married and wrong are made by the bros. quay
lip is more of an interview than a video (the video bits are them in
warren's basement)
major topic: food! of course.

I'm afraid the The _Magic!_ version of AVAM CD is out of print.

AVAM was not offered with the mag, but precisely with a new subscription
to one year issues of Magic!

Magic! has an issue each 2 months and a week (no joke, it should be each 2
months, but there are always in late), and in each issue you can
find the trditionnal subscription coupon, and you receive a CD if you
subscribe. The CD is always different, don't know exactly when the AVAM was
offered, but it's quite a long time ago...
__________

According to Julien, from _Karina Square_, quite all the 1000 first pressing
has been sold quickly, so they ask for a new pressing... don't ask me
exactly how many, I haven't a clue.

I've just bought both Ladykillers CDs...Miki seems intent on emphasizing
their "Englishness"...like a female Blur? Is that accurate? But 14 B-sides on
two singles...wow! I sense a nice Japan-only B-sides CD (a la "Cookie") on
the way...

Oh yeah, I don't really care for the new Lush...but I love v23's sleeve
concept. Reminds me of the US fx cable network.

Oh yes ...fluffy white clouds, great... Anyway, I did notify her that I
would send on Monday and I did. You see, there was a mixup in the address,
as I found out later on, and now I am waiting for the mail to return so i
could resend ...again. I made the mistake of posting it and I did just
before I got her other message, sorry dp. Just for the record, I too would
be pissed off if someone pulled that crap on me too. As a matter of fact,
it's happening to me right now with a mojave3 and a liquorice CD. And that
has traumatized me to trusting anyone. I feel really bed about this [for
her] and I will make sure that it never happens again.
THERE!!

love,
