well i've sent three messages to this season clearance guy with no
response and my "bids" which were higher than anyone. Has anyone
acutally dealt with the person, are they cred or what? i don't have
time for wankers......buyers beware just because we're on the internet
doesn't mean that there's some level of civility involved. i'll be
setting my twit filter on high.

why does reading this list become more and more of a chore as the weeks go
by? who is 'everything's gone green' by again? lush = elastica. you're an
asshole. no, you're an asshole. your writing sucks. typo this, typo that.
my voluntary review of this list every fortnight for the tasty thread
(sick-n-tired list) is quickly becoming a life sentence.
yours in complaint,
.joanna.
yes, the new tori amos is difficult. like livonia, it demands your
attention and won't let go. it's weird, it's got some pale-sainty mbvy
wacko time signatures. it's tori-as-crazed-lunatic. i like it alot. i'm
currently doing a vox-only rewrite of 'horses.' that track screams harmony.
i've got four parts so far.
however, if you abhor yelping, avoid, dear child, avoid.

no, no, and no. the folk implosion is a CURRENT side project of lou barlow

i'm curious to hear from people who are in little bands, and who have put
out records and such. i want to know how these things happened for you,
because my band is starting to think about these things and really want
to be educated before making decisions.
i hadn't been thinking about future goals til yesterday, some weird
record exec came in to hear us practice, and gave us a glimpse of the
crazy music business world.
okay, i hope to get many responses although i'm sure i'll get none

Forwarded from the MBV list. Warning: the movie is universally regarded
as a particularly lame slasher flick.

> say that I'm prepared to hate them. Has anyone yet heard the LP?
> And if so, what is your assessment of it? "Single Girl" is only
i HAVE heard the album and i believe i already gave my review of it-- if
i did will other people who have heard it tell me if they agree... most
people i know have listened to it, been surprised that it was lush, but
liked the songs nonetheless.
i like the album, i'm afraid to say, even though it's not the lush i fell
in love with. it's a whole new lush. i don't think of them as the same
lush, they're doing newer things and it's too bad that they're not still
in scar mode. but oh well.
i like many of the songs. they've still got their beautiful key changes,
which they've always been good at. slow song "papasan" is absolutely
beautiful, "heavenly nobodies" i probably like better than hypocrite.
and i LOVE LOVE LOVE cul de sac! why doesn't anyone like it? it's
awesome. phil says another similar one is coming up- and he samples miki
and emma's vocals again, in a more thoughtforms way.
one thing that does bug me is the lyrics-- they used to be so poetic and
now they're really not. "ciao!" is my least favorite song on the album.
it's catchy, and it may even grow on you, but i do believe it's a
terrible song. "500" has some bad lyrics i think- from "shake baby
shake...rake baby rake" to "they call you little mouse by name"
and all the horns they use...well, i don't mind them although i'm
sure people will.
i saw them live and they were good- this is a good enough thing. so
maybe you should all just see them live and not buy the album.
xx

Hi guys
"My Bloody Valentine" isn't awful - it's a typical '81 slasher film (that was
a 'good' year for slice 'em/dice 'em movies), directed by a reasonably
talented Canadian, George Mihalka.
While not a classic - we're not talking Hitchcock here - it offers up a fair
share of chills and (mild) bloodletting goosebumps. The story behind MBV is
that the original cut was given an 'X' by the MPAA (the killer is partial to
pick axes and sundry implements of impalement), but Paramount whimped out and
sliced out the 'naughty bits' big time (see also: "Intruder", "Friday the
13th")
If you listen to very early (pre-Creation) MBV, you can hear why they named
themselves after a horror film. And they could have picked a far worse one.
We could all be eagerly anticipating the third album by (heavens forbid)
Night School
Nightmares in a Damaged Brain
Final Exam
Happy Birthday to Me
or, worst of all,
Curtains.
well now, that was pretty pointless. Wasn't it?

Cognitive dissonance! Cognitive dissonance!
I've seen it, it's awful -- a typical '81 slasher film.

Don't forget 10,000 Maniacs. I hear they have a new record deal;
perhaps it will be an inspiration to MBV. BTW, does anyone want to
comment on whether they're the world's laziest band, or just the most
obsessively perfectionist?
Paul,
who has used the 'perfectionist' excuse himself.

Not so important but for those who like precise things:
Has someone noticed that on _Scary Verlaine_,
stickers Debout/Couch=E9 are inverted regarding to the
number printed on sides: MZH 1685/A and MHZ 1686/B ?
I assume sides are inverted...?
