Subject: the body shop 4ad cd

hey everyone!

the radio is broadcasting a 4ad cd given to purchases made when shopping
at the body shop...i assume this is the "think i'm getting the hang of
it" cd...not sure though, unless it's a different one...mine has a body
shop logo on it but i got mine awhile back...can anyone verify this?

laters!

p.s. the radio stations in los angeles that i've heard this commercial
broadcasting are calling 4ad, "four ad records" not "four a d records"

There's no one around you can play with?! Maybe you should move to a new
area (seriously)

Ouch! Sounds like you need to get out quick...how did you get into such a
predicament? And besides...*hoots*??

Oh...I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to miss his combative

Almost missed it - I was walking out of the shop and happened to glance
in the window, and there it was. I think it's the best Cocteaus
release since HoLV, at least. The first two songs ("Feet Like Fins"
and "Seekers Who Are Lovers") are quite radical remixes (I have to
guess in the latter case, but FLF is unrecognisable), on "Violane" Mark
Clifford seems to have kept the vocals intact (again, a guess), and
"Cherry Coloured Funk" uses the vocals which are in the background in
the original version. It's hard to be sure, but I don't think Clifford
has added anything to the tracks, just used the original tapes as
sources for new compositions. In an odd sort of way, it sounds more
Cocteau-ish than the last EP, despite the main creative input being
from someone who isn't in the band. I was a bit apprehensive, as
Seefeel's recent style suggested that Clifford might throw most of the
tracks away and use tiny snippets of Liz over a pounding beat, but it's
more like "Quique"-era Seefeel than "Succour". I haven't seen a vinyl
version, I assume there will be a double 7" format, as with the last
one.

For anyone who is interested, I was at Vinyl Ink in D.C. on Thursday,
and they had had copies of No Balls and Facing the Wrong Way, as well as
SHarks Patrol These Waters and a Guernica sampler album. They have a web
page you can order from, but of course I don't have it handy right now.....
They also had some nifty Seefeel and FSA, but not anyone more since I
bought it! HA !

while i was looking for deals last weekend, i stumbled across an import cd
titled "space." that's all the cd said. it was even on space records, or
something like that. being curious, i put it in the cd player and started
to listen. the back of the case listed eight (i think) tracks named after
each of the planets save earth (i think they were all on there, but i don't
really remember). the cd, however, only had one track, and i certainly
didn't want to scan through 40 minutes of cd trying to find the individual
"songs." overall, the cd was very ambient-ish, with some samples from
space transmissions, music, and other fun stuff. it didn't do much for me,
but i thought i'd post something about it to the list as the entire thing
was packaged like some one-off release that some die-hard collector might
be looking for. anyone heard of this???

they also had, sitting right next to the space thing, a spaceman3 cd. i
forget the name, but it also looked like a one-off on some minor
californian label. it may have been called genius, but i'm not so sure. i
gave that a listen as well, but the recording quality was less than
special, so i ended up not buying it. is this at all rare? (my knowledge
of the whole spacemen/spiritualized thing doesn't extend very far past a
few lone tracks on compilation discs.

bye,

eric

What's the spacemen/spiritualized connection?

the 'space' cd is actually none other than the KLF. i don't know too much
about it(even though i own it) but i think it might be a project that jim
cauty worked on with alex 'the orb' patterson, and the patterson stuff
was later removed. when this came out on vinyl, i think it was very
limited. i'm not even sure if the cd is an official release or a bootleg.

try the KLF's 'chill out' cd. it's great
