Well, yes, actually I am an idiot. I have no clue where I was when
the list address changed. In la la land with LIz and the birds. Regardless,
thank you to all who responded and set me on the straight and narrow. It
doesn't pay to not read important messages and to "Re" instead of
sending your own delicious mail.
On a musical note, has it been discussed before that the Pale Saints song
on _...And Dog Bones Too_ is listed as "Blue Flower" but is really track 10
(on the vinyl) from _In Ribbons_? Sorry, I don't remember the name offhand.
Also, I was talking with Rich at 4AD in LA yesterday and he seemed quite
surprised at how much we know. Particularly about all of our Mojave info.

Sorry about the crossposting, but I need to find this:
Tuesday saw me eagerly driving over to my mother's to tape my Spoonfed
Hybrid "Scary Verlaine" single as well as my Alison's Halo "Dozens." When
I got there, I found that both pieces of vinyl had skips in them. Not
scratches, mind you, just slight defects in the vinyl. The Alison's Halo
7" is quite replacable, but the other, I'm afraid is not, unless one of you
can tell me how to get it domestically, which brings me to the point of
this ranting message. If any of you know where and how I can get another
copy of "Scary Verlaine," please let me know. "Scary Verlaine" itself was
good, very synthesized, and a little heavier than what I'm used to hearing
from them. The B-side, "The Sun Always Changes My Mind" was the one that
had the skip in it. It kind of reminded me of Slowdive's "Pygmalion"
album. The skip, however, was not the kind where the record passed the
skip and continued. It lingered there, and played the same phrase over and
over. Aaaaarrrrgghhh!!! It's too horrible to describe. Help me!!
Thanks,
eric

I've just joined the 4AD-listserve today, so here's a short introduction.
I'm a 28 year old graphic designer from Rotterdam (the Netherlands, so
don't mind some strange misspelligns and words-in-the
wrong-order-sort-of-things). I am buying (but most of all listening)
4AD-records for years and years now. The first one was back in 1982, the
Cocteau Twins Garlands-album, and since then it didn't stop. I saw most of
the 4AD acts I really liked live in concert (cocteau twins, dead can dance,
dif juz, belly, muses, breeders, black, lush, red house painters, heidi,
pixies, twp, lisa germano, xymox, kristin, pale saints and in september:
lisa gerrard!)
When I recently found out that I was buying every 4AD-release, I subscribed
myself to the '4AD Subscription Service' of the Mail Order-service at 4AD
in London.
(Do you all have information about this service?)
I'll hope to find and give lots of information in/to this listserve.
- the Belly baby-shirt is wonderfull but I'll hope it'll never fit me...
- there's a house in my street with the number 23 on the door! And my
clock says: 21:46 ; )
=46or now, de groeten!

Brant bemused:

Well, Mr. Skepticality, The Body Shop _IS_ a strip joint on Sunset.
Living in Los Angeles, I thought you'd know that.
The Wolfgang Press story is TRUE as far as I have heard. This I did not
make up at all. Came straight from my friend who interns at 4AD.
The AVAM thing is definitely false. But it's better than starting that
whole "Why ARE all Virgos mad??" thread again.
Just trying to bring some excitement to an often repetitive subject....
I didn't see an attack on the guy who told the funny story about the Body
Shop...you probably believed it, huh? Yeah, I saw you sneaking into the
Gap Kids shop at Westside Pavillion the other day...go on, admit it!! B)
Don't flame a flamer, big boy...

Question 1:
Since when is Slowdive on 4AD? Or is it a us-only release like The
Glee Club's Mine album...
Question 2:
Does anybody have a 'complete' list of all 4AD-promos? (UK/US)
Question 3:
Does anybody have a 'PAL-version' of the All Virgos Are Mad-video?
=46or those who can give answers: Thanks!

Sorry if that post calling into question Ivo Lorelei's
recent posts came across as a personal attack. I merely meant
it as a light-hearted attempt to cast some doubt on these posts
that seemed rather far-fetched. Nothing more. Keep posting news
from your contact, J. It's better than *I* can manage.
And I have never heard of the Body Shop strip club despite
living in LA for the past 8 years. "My interests don't take me
there." But I had no doubt that there probably is such a place.

1. The band Mojave is Neil and Rachel and someone named Chris who I don't think
has been identified. From what I remember of recent posts, there is an unlisted
track of theirs on the "...think I'm getting the hang of it" sampler and their
album release date is
17 October -- Mojave "Ask Me Tomorrow"
and their sound has been described as "acoustic" and quite different from
Slowdive.
2. Someone on the list (one of the manic collekters) has a discocraphy of the
UK promos, as for US ones I don't know.
3. I'm pretty sure the AVAM video was only NTSC, as the 13yi video was only
PAL. Most of the things on the AVAM video (which has less tracks) are on the
13yi vid. The only ones I remember liking that were only on the AVAM vid were
"The Carnival is Over," "Puppet" (Lisa Germano), and "Hypocrite."

Apologies in advance if this has been covered a thousand times before, but I
can't find it in the FAQ... Does 4AD do mail order from their L.A. PO box? I
was wondering if anyone has ordered from them and was satisfied with the
prices/service etc... If they do, do I need to send money for a catalog? Thanks
in advance for any help with this.
Another question: Is the Liquorice album available domestically in the U.S. on
4AD/Warner, or is it only an import? After reading several interesting comments
about this album recently, I tried to locate a copy, but with no luck. On the
same subject, I thought someone mentioned that someone from HNIA was involved
with Liquorice. Was it Warren?
And speaking of HNIA, does anybody no what's up with them? I haven't heard
anything new from them since "Library Girl". Is a new album in the works?
Sorry for all the questions...
Martin

Actually both PAL and NTSC formats exist for both the 13yi and AVAM
videos. Definitely for the 13yi video, the NTSC format was much more
limited. I suspect the opposite is true for AVAM, but I have no official
word. As for LIAE, as far as I know, it's still readily available in
both formats.
Then there's the so-called "Lilliput" video which was at least in
NTSC (don't know about PAL).
