Actually, I think it is illegal. Talk like this has been going on at the
various anime groups for quite a while... even copying & giving it to
your friends is illegal.... I'm not an expert; this is just what I've
been told.

I've been waiting a while for the next splendid issue of SWU for
a while now and in talking to John Carbonaro it seems that the
release is now set for mid-june! Yay! It promises to have in-
terviews and reviews from pop bands the world over *** I don't
know how John does it but he manages to seek out all kinds of
great pop bands that are just getting underway so it's a fine
source of new bands and releases. Keith D'Arcy called the
third issue a yellow pages of indie pop... high praise indeed.
The format will be 8" by 11" and plenty thick... it's all done
by hand and comes with some very fine artwork. As an added bonus
it will come with a split flexi with The Heartworms and The Apples
with the potential of a 2 song cassette by The Lovelies. Yummy.
I'm sure that Parasol will be picking this up as well as Mousetrap
but if you want to get this directly from John you can write to:

Macedon, NY 14502
John's a wonderful guy with an extensive knowledge of indie pop (much
like Keith D'Arcy and Matt Kaplan) so it's worth your while to send
direct - he's happy to do trades and talk pop! Hey, he's also trying
to drum up enough money to get a computer to join the list so please
do your part!!
Best,
Stephen

Legal schmegal! It's not going to harm the record industry and it might
even help it. I'm going to participate not in order to avoid buying the
actual CD's but because i want to be exposed to new music. Who's likely to
listen to a mixed tape with several songs you like, several more that are
just ok, and several that aren't your thing when you can go out and buy the
CD of the artists that you like most?

what is the sun to them but a caster of shadows? And what is it to
acknowledge the laws but to stoop down and trace their shadows upon the
earth? But you who walk facing the sun, what images drawn on the earth can
hold you? You who travel with the wind, what weathervane shall direct your
course?" -Kahlil Gibran

Did I write "it's illegal, so don't do it"? No. Did I write "It's going to
hurt the industry"? No. If I were interested, I'd do it too.

do you really care if its illegal?
i mean do you think anything will actually happen as a result of this
tape swap! geez.. i can think of better things law enforcement could
be doing than prosecution ppl for a silly tape exchange.
