I'm fairly certain that this is indeed a legitimate petition. I
have a small yet informative text file dealing with the bill, similar
instructions for sending your signature, and a good analysis of it
all that I'd be happy to send to anyone who'd like it. I dled the
file from WIRED's forum on aol, which is why I'm pretty sure
all's well with it. I s'ppose WIRED's net sites might have the
file as well.

The post I originally downloaded was quite thorough, with much information on
the bill. Im pretty certain that that one was legitimate, although I can't
be sure if this is from the same source.

I guess my question is: if it is a hoax, what could they possibly gain
besides a bunch of addresses?

No I don't believe it is a hoax. Check out comp.org.eff (the Electronic
Freedom Foundation) newsgroup. The Exxon bill has gotten wide publicity there.

On another note, you shouldn't be surprised that the Internet illitereate
mass press hasn't picked it up yet.

With CNN spouting quotes like, "he even hacked the Internet" (regarding
the Mitnick case), as if the Internet is a single entity. This is the
press that gave us the "Information Superhighway" but wouldn't know a
T1 is they tripped over it. Let's hope this Info Super Highway doesn't come
with a Super DOT.

Just to report back on the current state of Belly's tour...

(1) 3 of the band members are suffering from *real* Belly=20
problems...direct quote from Gail on her way to the "bathroom",=20
apparently they can't take British cuisine!!
(2) For anyone foolish enough to part large quantities of cash for the=20
King Promo dice...they are on sale at the UK dates for =A33...
(3) Likewise, 2 x 4" Yellow/Red Belly Logo stickers will set you back =A31.
(4) The longsleeved white King promo T-shirt is *not* available at gigs.
(5) Gail's word for the tour is "rule", not content with signing all my=20
records with "I rule" and various adaptations, with regard to Cold=20
Water Flat (support, from Boston) she suggested on stage that "They=20
    Rule" also....now there's trivia.
(6) Oh yes, I almost forgot, the gig was awesome, packed and showing a=20
fair number of oldies (those of us over 25, brought up on Throwing=20
Muses) who were refused drinks at the bar because we weren't students..=

Hello. Someone on this list mentioned that they though Polara's (debut?)
album was the best release of 1995. I don't know if I'd go that far, but it
is one hell of a good album. Hints of Ride, Boo Radleys, UVS and a
whole slew of Indie Rock.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Andrew. Also, I am pleased it was good. I went to
see Throwing Muses at the Astoria on the 20th of Feb, and they were stunning.
I haven't seen them before, and it was strange to see someone as obviously
quiet as Kristen Hersh coming out with such stunning songs. That gig really
whetted my appetite for the Belly gig next Sunday. My only disappointment
was that as it was the last night of the UK tour, the 'Bright Yellow Gun
T-shirts had sold out, and I had to get a 'University' T shirt. Now,
everyone I meet asks me where Throwing Muses University is.
I tell them Oregon.
Which T-shirts were for sale at Belly? Were there any? I don't want to miss
out again!

I havent heard Red Heaven, but out of RR, HP & UN (The 3 that I own,) my
vote would go for HP. I liked university, but don't think it is as great
as HP. I would put it on the same level as RR. BYGun, is excellent, and
I like Snakeface. I really liked Belly's stuff, and I think T Donelly,
is great, but after waiting for King, and maybe too much anticipation
It just wasn't as good as I was expecting, and so as I bought King and
Universty at the same time, I had no preconceptions of University. I
think Tanya and Kristan were really good together. Oh well.

I got HNIA - Mouth by Mouth from a friend for a while.
WOW
WOW
Damn, I hate it when I miss out on really good music 'cause I have no
money.

I jeally prefer female vocals to male vocals, and the woman singing has
a beautiful voice. The guitar is really excellent, and has a differnt
sound to a lot of what I have heard. Also each song on the album has a
different sound to it. I'll have to steel, beg, steel, borrow, & steel
some more HNIA from those of my few friends who have it. I suppose I
could always sell my car or something.

Gnome ... who is kicking himself for not listening HNIA sooner ...

so long because it took two years just to get the basslines
