the radio station i work at received two copies of a new e.p. by a band
called swirlblade, so i managed to get one. anyway, the music is just
wonderful...kind of pop-ey, with both male and female vocals. rather 4ad-ish
i should say. so has anyone else heard of them/ know anything about them?

First of all, I' d love to have a transcript of the chat on AOL with TM!
Second of all, I would love to download the University promo, but I am not
an AOLer. Does anyone know where else I could look for this on the 'net?
Are there any FTP sites for music-related stuff (like the REM "monster"
promo, or the "lush" promo?
Let me know, I wouldn't mind giving up 3.5 mb to have Kristin and friends
grace my hard drive with their presence!

agreed. i have both versions of happiness, but haven't delved into them
yet. i am amazed at the amount of emotion that pours out of 'geek the
girl,' but i've only been able to get through the entire album without
1)crying 2)putting on something happier once. i can really identify with
some of her messages/lyrics, tho; i, too, sleep with a lousiville slugger
under my bed.

>I still haven't got a handle on the Germano album, but that
>"Psychopath" track scares me. A lot.
I usually get to know my CD's at night when I am laying in my bed with my
head phones on. It is usually dark in my room and it is a hassle to find my
CD player and fastforward to the next song. This is the reason that I
haven't delved into the terror that Lisa Germano is on "GEEK THE GIRL." I
don't have time during the day to lay on my couch IN THE DAYLIGHT and listen
to the album the whole way through. I think "Psychopath" gives me a weird"I
need to throw up but I am also scared" feeling. I don't think that any song
has impacted me the way it does. I made my mom listen to it and she cried.
I think the CD deserves to be listened to as a whole and I hope I may soon
get over my fear.

i don't often sit down and review albums...i'm not much of a
writer and what i feel about music is personal and basically
uninteresting to the vast majority of the public. however, i
thought i'd take the time to write about an album that has
an impact on everyone who listens to it..good or bad...
lisa germano - geek the girl
from the moment i read the description in 4ad's summer newsletter,
i knew this would be a very important record...at least, for me.
so with my teensy bit o'xmas money, i weighed my musical options
for a brief second while walking to the 'g' section and picked up
'geek the girl'. i decided to listen to the cd when i could actually
"listen" and not just hear it. if you knew me at all, you'd know
that the only time i get to concentrate on such things is late at
night...
i would be lying if i said that i couldn't identify with what lisa
sings about on GTG. if i ever had to present someone with a selection
of music that adequately represented myself, GTG would be right in
there with the first two hnia and a few other things.
that's probably more than you ever wanted or needed to know about me.
GTG presents the listener with a slice of disturbing images, thoughts,
and feelings. a more lucid piece of f'ed up reality than what kristin
hersh brings forth in her own music. i would think a lot of people,
especially men, would have a problem listening to this record. this
being a female's perspective on some of life's darker happenings and
all. i didn't pay too much attention to what was written about GTG on
the list before because i wanted to hear it & have an understanding of
the music first...
all topics aside, the music behind the the words on GTG is a lovely
undercurrent of eerieness. sometimes stark and minimal..other times
just whirring around in full. lisa's often child-like voice isn't
so much intriguing as it is sad and melancholic given the things she's
singing about. for people who like their music as pure entertainment
and not a vehicle for provoking thoughts and feelings, i don't see
how one can listen to this at first and not be moved in some capacity.
blah blah blah..i'll stop rambling. it's cold..i'm gonna get some
tea and search for something watchable on tv...
