OK, i'm just recovering from my cold and two recent purchases have
helped me tremendously (Love conquers all): Love Spirals Downwards, Ardor
& Love is Colder than Death, Oxeia.
Love Spirals Downward, Ardor (Projekt)
Those of us who really enjoyed the first LSD effort, Idylls, will
not be dissappointed with the second album. This duo continue to work
their magic; Susan Jennings' vocals soar in from the heavens propelled by
the accompaniment through your ears where they slowly dilute your cerebral
fluids. If i had to choose one word to describe this album it would be
SEAMLESS; the album is perfectly integrated into one cohesive movement of
emotions and rhythms. Once you press play as you continue on your business
or daydreaming you can't always remember where one song left off and the
other one began. This seamlessness is something like that of This Mortal
Coil or His Name is Alive BUT they manage to make each song distinct so
that if you go back and change tracks it doesn't sound like you've missed
the first five seconds of the song. I personally think this album shows
impressive growth both in the vocal stylings (the decipherablility of the
lyrics float in and out of perception without degrading into obvious "la la
la"'s) and the music but this isn't going to stop the pseudo-justified
epithets from LSD's detractors who claim that they take too much from the
Cocteau Twins. Though certain aspects of LSD's sound are remniscent of the
CT's, LSD are by no means derivative or devoid of creativity.
Love Is Colder Than Death, Oxeia (Hyperium/ carried by Metropolis and Darkwave)
With their latest album, we find LICTD at their strongest and most
consistent. Their previous two albums had some good songs and some that i
would learn to program out on the CD player but this one is much more
consistent. LICTD have always mixed industrial soundscapes and
medieval/western classical styles but never have they done it so
effectively than on this album where it dips and whorls from darkness to
uplifting in spirit, sounding modern and spiritual at the same time. Oxeia
sees the band moving closer to the brilliance of Dead Can Dance's Aion but
alas Susann Heinrich's voice does not have Lisa's range nor its
experimentation and the rhythms though engaging for much of the album fall
short in a few places. Whereas DCD are influenced by specific past musical
genres (medieval, celtic, eastern), LICTD take more broadly from western
classical musical styles. LICTD have solidified their place in my CD rack,
i'll be looking forward to their next release.
These two albums have not been permited to leave my CD tray for the
past week. If you are open to new bands treading in the same musical realm
as Cocteau Twins or Dead Can Dance then check out each of these bands who
are puting their own original spin on a sound which may sound a bit
familiar.

That way it would come right off and not permanently mar the artwork.

I think the connection came up in some conversation about TtW being sold
there... or maybe it was the UPCs (which I think was actually Projekt).
Whatever... I'm sure at least a few of the 4AD artists shop at
Blockbuster, so there's still a vague connection, wherever the discussion
came from.
just trying to be (un)helpful :)

It's not out yet. What's the company? Miramax, takes forever to do these
things. I checked our video store in the college district (that carries
everything) and they don't even know anything about it.

In other words, you have no convictions about anything, and no moral
guidelines or imperatives telling you what you think is right or wrong,
or even if right or wrong are valid concepts. Hmm. Well, it saves you
lots of thinking, I suppose.

Whilst in London for the past two weeks, I happened to see Insides live.
I haven't received any 4AD list traffic for the past two weeks, so people
may have talked about this already... if no onhas, I'll post a review,
but PLEASE let me know by emailing to me, and not cluttering the list...
I'll talk about the 20,000 different remixes I heard for TWP's "Going South,"
and the video, if that interests anyone as well.
For those who are waiting for the Insides story text from me, it's coming...

This took a while to sink in.

Oh, so what you're saying is we're exempt from the normal obligations of

And what would you prefer from a system of beliefs? Open-mindedness?
Tolerance? A spirit of peaceful, open discussion? I sure as hell don't
see any of that here.
> To quote Ian McKaye, "I will refuse!"
Yeah John, we're all going to FORCE YOU to live a virtuous life and think
good thoughts and abide by your obligations, just as soon as we figure
out how. At least, go ahead and think of us that way if it helps you get
you get your aggressions out. God forbid you should stand up for any firm
principle instead of picking an acceptable punching bag and taking cheap
shots at its faceless, demonic stormtroopers.

So you have nothing good to say about the left, but its opposite is evil
by virtue of its *not* being the left?

But of course! Didn't you know she was a moron? We're all morons. One can
only embrace conservative principles by omission of action, and letting
the mind rot. Any thinking person would *obviously* pick the slightly-less-
evil Great Left, or, better yet, bite the bullet, display real courage,
and disdain politics altogether! What moral, virtuous, tolerant people we
would be, then!
> -jOHN thinks christians suck...
> /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

It came from somewhere in the neighborhood of "jOHN thinks jews suck",
only with Christians it's *okay* because they won't have their feelings
hurt! Besides, it's Christians who control the banking system now anyway,
right? Maybe you should try and come up with a nice clean open-minded
tolerant liberal equivalent for 'kike'.
I have to admit you're one of the last people I expected to see sinking
to this kind of pathetic, cheap speech, but given that you've decided
to do so, it's only natural you'd try to mask it with feigned smileys and
self-deprecating overdramatic outrage. That's netiquette for you. Of
course, I'll probably take too much heat on this list for actually coming
out and stating a solid opinion, so please disregard everything above
this line as _just_my_opinion_ and instead replace it with "Fuck you,
you're a gutless asshole."
Just my opinion. YMMV. :-)
